Leave the VSC on for street driving, VSC Sport at a minimum. Even a small incident will cost over 6k.
Learned this from experience this week. |

Full nanny mode does suck, a shopping trolley with 4 casters will get around a corner better. Plus it makes a racket as it goes about its business. And if you have not noticed this, you don't really need a car that handles as well as the FRS.
Sports mode is acceptable. I have not yet found a safe place to experiment with the full handling envelope with the nanny turned off. Either I book a track day or hit a slalom just to find out. I agree that the tires feel weakly bonded to the pavement. All my cars up to now have had either R compound rubber or Falken Azenis. They will be arriving. For winder driving, I will have to do some experimenting to see what is safer: full nanny or sport mode. The video "slip and slide" posted on this site is pretty cool. |

I think the biggest problem people are having is their inexperience with RWD, this car isn't really anymore dangerous than others. Both in my old explorer and in my current bimmer I have had the tail step out on me at even at low speeds, and I don't take of the ASC on my car.
If the road is anything but perfect and dry there is always a chance for your tail to dance at anything upsetting. Add rain and a turn and the odds just go up. Don't turn off the trac control in the rain, unless you are on a closed course it's an invitation for trouble. Glad OP came out safe, sounds like he's learned his lesson.

Fuck traction control, I am a man and will drive my car. Not have some computer mess it all up. The only time I leave it on is a 6:30 in the AM while I'm driving to work still half asleep and its raining. Heres a few tips, don't speed in the rain, never get air(jump) in a rwd, learn your lessons, and don't shove your ideas down other people throats. Op glad your Ok, whats a chick doing driving a 3Z?

I think it has something to do with how well it corners. People drive these cars aggressively and they stay grounded until well but when it breaks loose and ends up in a full on skid. Typically at higher speeds then most other cars.

as a matter of fact, if you watch one of the BMI races where Orido drives the 86, he complains about the tc being intrusive even when he turned the TC "off". What his team ended up doing was removing the fuse for the TCS (which also unfortunately disabled the ABS). So my question still stands.

Yeah same. When the TC is completely off the dash will say trac off and have the car swerving off icon on and stay that way.

If you don't hold it, traction control will AUTOMATICALLY turn back on at wheel speeds over 30mph, which is more than capable in a second in the wet while sliding. |
