I haven't ever seen a camera like this but from the looks of it I would guess this is made to mount in a similar manner to parking sensors. The white part is the same type of holder used on a lot of parking sensors and the angle of the camera looks relatively flat, like it would sit flush with your bumper and basically aim straight out.

Big hole required. Won't for in OEM location. Swivel equals more to break and water penetration.

Ideally, it would be powered by the camera power lead off of the 16-pin harness of the head unit. The problem, as I understand it, is that the OEM camera is a 6 volt unit instead of a 12 volt, so unless you can step that up, or your aftermarket camera can take 6 volts, you have to go with your own circuit. You might think you could get by with tapping into the reverse light, since that's only on during a reverse gear switch. This is true, but the additional problem you'll run into is that the head unit checks for video input at startup and if it doesn't find it, it assumes you have no camera. Unless you happen to be in reverse when you start it up, this won't work. |

The camera power lead on the 16-pin harness is = to ACC (on when the car is on).
I grabbed power from the factory amp in the trunk which was very convenient. |

Oh? So the head unit was designed to always have the camera on? Interesting that they wouldn't have made it switched with the reverse sensor, since they have all that coming to the head unit anyway. I know cameras have long lifecycles, but I figured it would've been better to only power it when needed.

The reverse 16-pin plugs are in, and I now have the plug-and-play camera harnesses available! These are great for those who are hesitant about modifying the factory harness, or who want the ability to quickly disconnect and go back to the stock configuration. The basic RCA cable with pins is still available also. Link.
Several Subaru BRZ owners have tested my cables and harnesses and have been very happy. Quote:

I'm very tempted to get one...but I might hold that urge and wait for an OEM one... BUT...If I were to get this, I would probably mask and paint it white to match the SWP instead of leaving it black if it's offset to the side... (Limited has the trunk release button in the centre) What do you guys think?

Has anyone made this into a full time rear view camera without any guide lines? That would greatly interest me.
