Can someone please explain, in detail, what this controversy is about. I have never owned a boxer engine before and am clueless.

Thanks!

Technically the unequal length doesn't perform as well as equal length. Whether that performance decrease is even measurable is unknown on this application.

Personally I like the idea of unequal length. It gives the car personality. I don't care if it doesn't yield as high of numbers as equal length. We're talking nominal differences. I'll take that difference to have a car that doesn't sound like EVERY other 4-banger out on the road.

^ Agreed. The "boxer rumble" is one of my favorite engine sounds.

It's a issue for me as what I'd be going for the best response/quickest spool time without suffering from substantial power loss up top. I road race, more then anything so that's the big thing to me. Meaning I'm looking for something with a equal length exhaust manifold with a collector that is going to be divided to utilize a twin scroll turbo properly. With an unequal length exhaust manifold you won't have any benefit when using a twin scroll turbo as there's going to be a difference in exhaust gas turbulence/speed entering the divided housing of the turbo... which "COULD" even make your spool time suffer big time.

There's other factors that will affect your spool time as well. IC piping length/diameter, IC core size, exhaust manifold length/turbos location, thermal coating, etc. etc. etc. but EL is definitely a major benefit, esp in a low displacement vehicle such as ours.

Kit looks awesome like I said before and definitely is going to be probably the cheapest option for all the guys just looking to have a boosted fr-s/brz... But when you're looking for the most efficient way to make the power there's definitely better options out there. Sure we'll see a Full Race kit in a few months that will fit my desires/needs, if I don't go custom fabbed or P&L with a GTX28/2871.

Oh! and also, this thing is going to have some definite rumble... never seen a manifold that unequal. Curious to hear it!

You guys do realize there is more than just the UEL and having a " boxer motor " that makes that sound right? The firing and order and other things do contribute to that sound. I love the unique sound Subaru has made with previous cars(sti, wrx) but that sound might not be the same for this car. I personally think this car sounds great as is.

Can't wait for more updates for this sweet kit

Edit Add: What is the diameter for the dump pipe? I know its not production yet, but that is an ugly mofo lol.
