+1

I thought black (and all colours to a degree) absorb light rather than heat? But given that black absorbs more light (a larger band of wavelengths) - it tends to raise the energy of the object and in turn radiates this energy on a different wavelength (infrared -> heat) at a higher rate.

Not sure how that would apply in an enclosed dark space.

They discussed the effectiveness of a black intercooler over at ls1tech:

If white reflects light and heat, while black absorbs light and heat then isn't it logical that black is the best colour to emit heat rather than white?
A good insulator will reflect heat and stay relatively cool[white] while a poor insulator will absorb heat and get hot[black].

That's why most radiators are black or were at one time and not white because black emits more heat from the inside to the cooling air, whereas white would be an insulating reflective barrier by comparison.

Found a good old r/AskScience Reddit chain that discusses this in more detail.

Because a lot of people are just as concerned about looking fast as they are about actually being fast. They want people to see they have an intercooler.

The reason companies do not paint radiators black is usually for 2 reasons:

A.) The cost and performance differences are so minimal, that they can't justify painting the IC black.

B.) Most people like the look of the silver IC over black, for visual purposes.

I personally never cared either way. I've used a painted IC when I had a rock puncture mine for about a month, and iddn't notice any difference on my fbody

This kit looks superb. I'll be waiting on long term reliability results with turbos on these motors, but when the time comes this one is at the top of my list. Perfect for us California guys who'd like to stay a bit on the down low.

Pictures of the BOV placement, turbo to oem exhaust, and the exhaust manifold. That exhaust manifold isn't the prettiest, full production units will look much nicer.

Get in my life.

Edit: Perrin Performance had a piece re: power loss related to oil-temp, wonder if there will be any loss with the location of the headers/oil pan, or once installed, better performance with the addition of an oil-cooler...

Loved the kit, but the UEL exhaust manifold will keep me from buying.

Why would that of all things be what keeps you from buying it?
