I'm OK with it being legal - it is technically "pump gas". I just hope that it is not a necessary modification for this car in STX.

edit - read your post again. Either way, having multiple fuels is a PITA.
FYI there are eight E85 stations within the beltway around DC.

http://e85vehicles.com/e85-stations.html is a good site to reference local stations.

Guys/Gals, no one is holding a gun to your head and making you run E85. If it bothers you that much, stick with CS or RTR. Besides autocross is a driver's sport, not a who has the most mods and/or horsepower contest.

Back on topic, I'm happy with their decision. It will be refreshing competing in STX next season.

STX is good news!!! My GTI was STX prep even though I'd get toasted by RX-8 and WRX it is a fun class!

I also have the lack of E85 availability. Back when I lived in Michigan it was like E85 grew on trees (or maybe in the ground?!?!).

The Visconti E85 tune made 187/147 on an otherwise bone stock car. I think over 200whp is very realistic. Torque will be hard to come by though, so the 325 will probably keep its advantage there but not by much.
DoH!

I had a thread on RTR/CS open also and my mind was there. My bad

As long as the drivetrain will take it, there should be no reason the motor cant dish it reliably.

Excited to see the conclusion was not to "oversell" the potential of the car. It would have been an infuriating first few years being backmarkers in STU or STR.

And side note: Give me SP or give me death!!

well.... not really death, but I'm pining at the possibilities of this thing in SP... I assume it will be inevitable that the 2013s will benefit from the ud/bd rules as the so called "special editions" and STi versions are released.

I just meant are the numbers of the E85 tune a dyno queen type number or one that nearly everyone will be able to hit.

BTW...congrats on your good finish at Nats..... and your right... Steam rollers have become way out of my budget...however I could see some 275's x 16 on this things and some OMG Engine mods...'might' make it competitive in SP... CSP??? guess we'll see..

Kind of a bummer actually, because CS has been hurting for numbers since the trunk kit cars arrived. Leaving them there and classing the FRS/BRZ in STX is only going to continue that trend as STX is now unquestionably the best class to run the car in.
Two things happened here. I think one or two FRZ's showed up for CS, which isn't a great showing. The 370Z won one course too and was in the mix. Which makes it a hard argument to move the others... especially if no new cars show up in numbers.

That said, remember these cars are hundreds of pounds less than the 370Z, I'm sure that would have helped on the West course, but the 370 would have still been the car on the East. I don't know guys... I still think this thing has a shot at the Z0K/MSR bunch just looking at the numbers.

It's not really that clear cut... even if you arrive at the event on fumes, you still aren't going to be on pure E85. You need to go through at least a tank of the stuff to ensure that what you're putting in is actually E85, or E70, or whatever it's tuned for.

Here's what I did when I had my STU Evo (I had map switching for 93 and E85):
- Run the car to fumes a couple days before the event, fill up on E85, switch map
- Top up the E85 in the tank the night before an event, and also fill two 5-gallon jugs
- Drive to event, run, fill as needed
- Put 93 in the car on the way back home if needed, or when I run out a day or two later.

It's inconvenient but not horribly so. The tougher part is making sure you're consistent with your ethanol mix. My E85 tune was pretty conservative so I could run as low as E50 without issues... a real aggressive tune that DEMANDS a perfect E85 mix is definitely going to be a PITA, though.

Thanks Bill! I'm very pleased with the result, I hit my goal and I knew I left a good amount of time on course... so bonus!

I think CSP will be murder... NA Miatas with NB engines are just too epic... they ran significantly faster than ASP on both courses at nationals this year, and that is pretty typical in general.

I could see it being a competitive BSP car, it'll likely be the lightest car in the class at the rule limit and with some rolled fenders, should be able to fit some good sized meat. Engine wise I wouldn't expect to make a whole lot more than ST trim, the only real difference being the ability to gut all the emissions.

I am really happy to see this thing go to STX, if eventually I want to do a somewhat still streetable prep level between stock and going SP, I can still run competitively... though I don't know if I particularly would be... I hate street tires

I'm very happy to hear this. I competed locally in STX for a few years in my Mustangs, and we have a great bunch of guys locally in the class in a variety of different platforms that provide some good competition. Most likely next year I'll be swapping back and forth between my Mustang and BRZ in STX and might even throw some springs and swaybars on our Forester XT and bring it out if the weather is particularly cold or wet.
