There shouldnt be a reason to go back into first :p

will be doing an all-day rookie autocross school in October in my A/T. Then the next day the real deal autocross event. I have no worries about my car being A/T. Should be a blast

another cool point about AT is that you never worry about stalling when you spin out :p

Actually, I've stalled out my auto IS300 before from spinning out. If you're not hard enough on the brakes when you spin, you don't lock the tires, and if you go backwards you can stall the car.

tldr: Clutch and brake to the floor when you spin (or just brake in an AT)

I found that Manual Mode + 2nd + Sport Mode + VSC Sport worked great for me in my first AutoX. I might try Manual + all the Nannies off at my next event.

I also agree that once I got into 2nd, I didn't need to shift up or down anywhere in the course, except at the finish

This. I have rarely been on a course where the time spent shifting to first then back to second was actually faster than just leaving it in second, especially in a N/A car where you're not worried about bogging a turbo down.

I tried going with Full traction control off (holding it down for 3s) and it did not end well on the stock tires...it ended backwards, with the car stalled out. Yes you can stall an Auto just as easy as a mt when spinning.

If the AutoX track is big enough where you find yourself shifting 2nd to 3rd I highly recommend trying out the Sport mode in "D". If you let it shift for you, you might be surprised how well it can predict and anticipate downshifts.

After six hours my brakes wore, I understeered into a cement wall. Then it was at the shop for 2 and a half months. Other than that, Autox the AT is fun.

Pro tip: Check yo brakes.

My last event I tried a number of runs with the nannies off...spun out 4x.

Not sure if it is better to leverage the TC to my advantage with the nannies on, or turn them off. I've been told that I should learn to handle the car with them off, but given my lack of exp/skill it seems really easy to spin out.

Leave em off on the track. And listen to the instructors

EDIT

I mean, that's why you're there for, to improve as a driver. I ran a few times with VSC Sport on D, but even then it corrected most of my mistakes. If you can drive at like...level 10...when you're driving on regular roads at level 2 and crap hits the fan, say a truck veers into your lane, you can go He-man on that road.

Lol, says the guy who had so much sense to go six hrs on stock brakes and ended up in the wall.
With this auto tranny, it's fun driving in manual on the streets for the occasional pull etc, but on track, you'll be much faster just keeping it in auto + sport mode. The computer will amaze you with how accurately it anticipates downshifting and how aggressively it rev-matches. It pretty much keeps you right in the power band in all instances. This allows you to just concentrate on your racing line, steering input, and throttle/brake modulation. And yes, it stalls just like a MT when you spin out violently.

Yeah, mine did stall at least once on one of the better spinouts. Took a second for me to get it restarted as I was laughing too hard
