Let just be clear! I don't own a 370z, BRZ/FR-S, or Genesis. So I would say my opinion is non-subjective. I think all three cars are really nice. Each one of them got their own uniqueness about it that the other don't have which makes it stand out. I think the amount of passion people are having for the BRZ/FR-S was great given the fact that it was hype up a lot by the media. I'm would think the same reaction were there when the 350z first came out. It just comes down to what is your personal preference and which one you find it to be more attractive. I don't think any of those cars are UGLY in any stretch of the imagination.

Proportions make the 370Z look fat, even compared to the 350Z.

FR-S and even Genesis Coupe LOOK more slender.

The 370Z is not that big. It's not even that heavy. It's lighter than the 350Z and 300ZX Z32 before it, and makes more horsepower. Believe me guys, I really wanted to love the 370Z. I had an instant boner when I saw the back cover of Automobile magazine showing the "Z" symbol and nothing more than a script saying "Coming January 2009". I thought the car looked great, and even better in NISMO trim!

I thought numerous times about selling my 240Z and getting a 370Z, but that was before I got a chance to actually drive one. When I heard the twins were coming out, I decided to go out and try some used car alternatives; Nissan 370Z being atop the list. After driving both the FR-S and the 370Z, I can tell you that I absolutely prefer the FR-S/BRZ over the 370Z in every facet besides raw power. The FR-S/BRZ is a much closer successor to the original Z. In fact, if they changed the badging to Nissan and didn't tell me that it was powered by a boxer engine, I might never have asked any questions! It would break my heart, but I'm also a Toyota and Subaru enthusiast, having owned over a half dozen MR2's and helped my best friend with his 2001 Impreza 2.5RSTi drivetrain swap and driven my fair share of WRX/STi's. Maybe if Nissan designs a Z35 that's up to the task I'll go back some day. Until then, I'll be in the Toyobaru camp!

Oh, and the Genesis Coupe is F***ING RUBBISH as a sports car, I don't care what anyone says! No need for explanation. They'll hopefully make major improvements with the next generation car, but right now it's rubbish. They can't make a good-handling, fun-to-drive car, yet. Not with the Genesis, not with the Veloster, not with the Elantra GT or whatever it's called. Keep trying!

Some voice of reasoning at least. Your 240Z is a classic. I wouldn't get rid of it for anything. I agree with you here. 370Z may not be able to match up with the Twins in handling (if it can, then Toyota and Subaru have serious engineering issue since the Z came out 4 yrs ago), but to say the "rubbish (great term)" Gen coupe handles better and has better transmission than Z is just absurd without actual facts. I want to reiterate what I pointed out couple posts early. If the 3.8 2013 Gen coupe produces more power than 370Z, yet still slower in every way, there's something wrong with the platform.

I loved my 2000 Celica GT-S (marketed, appropriately enough as "looks fast"), and it too was a beautiful, sporty, good handling and braking car.

And one in good repair would rival the much newer FR-S/BRZ in every regard, except which wheels are turning.

That's my complaint.

The FR-S is what the last gen Celica should have been TWELVE YEARS AGO.

The last gen Celica, like the FR-S/BRZ, was a "pretty idiot" of a car. It would have been brilliant had it been built at the same time the last gen Integra was first released instead of during its last model year.

Then the RSX came out, and showed what a pretty fool the Celica was.

Timing is everything, and performance metrics matter.

Would I want a numb turd of a car that cannot handle, brake, or get out of its own way -- no.

But while having 2 out of those 3 features ain't bad for under 20K, it's disappointing at 25+K, especially when for around 5K more, you can own cars that will absolutely destroy it out of the box.

I love the FR-S/BRZ. But I want it to be more. I want Toyota to offer more. I want Toyota to build a car that rivals cars 1.5 to 2x the price in all three of the attributes I noted.

They didn't do that so I am bummed. I'd be shopping for one right now if they had, or if they had at least made factory options to take it there.

And I predict that unless they really turn up the wick on the next gen, you will start to see many other similar competitors (e.g., "baby" Camaro) that will demolish it.

Toyota set the bar too low and the price too high. The car is an amazing success only viewed through a time machine's porthole, with the "way back" dial set to circa 1999. For the 21st century, it's a step in the right direction, but only a single step.

All I can think of when I read this is... "Get over yourself?"

We get it, you think it could've been better and you can't imagine how Toyota could charge so much for so little. And just because the majority of us (the forum, magazines, expert reviewers, journalists and car afficianados) don't see it your way doesn't mean we're right, but at some point you'll have to just accept the fact that you're just a very vocal minority right now.

Its unfortunate you don't understand why we like this car so much, but maybe you'd find more like-minded viewers on the 370Z forums?

So not to distract from any bickering above I just sped-read, but yeah, this is pretty accurate.

Sure the Z will probably catch up eventually in a twisty track, but the driver will really have to muscle it through.

Why do I say that? I was just on a track all day today with my G37S trying to catch an FR-S. Sure, I've got a 400lb weight penalty, but otherwise my car is pretty much a 370Z. It's stock minus pads and fluid. The FR-S was apparently stock minus RPF-1 wheels and sticky Nitto track tires. The track was a 2.2 mile road course with 14 turns.

Put it this way: I had to have several excellent laps (without overheating) in a row to reel in the FR-S. It was tough. I'm no pro driver, but I'm decent (only cars to pass me today were a Spec-3 944, a 911, and one Cayman S on track tires). And that said, I never passed the FR-S...I only got close once. The power difference on the straight was obvious once I had him in my sight, but as soon as the turns started again, it took work to hang with him.

Anyhow, considering the amount of modifications any car that will be constantly tracked will need, the FR-S/BRZ may be a better template to start from. A Z-type car needs too many damn coolers and duct upgrades to be constantly trackable. The FR-S seemed happy stock. You can always add power later.

Long story short, I've been eyeing the twins for a while...I test drove one a few weeks back and thought the handling was brilliant. And I'm 90% sure I'm going to trade my G and pick one up. That's one vote of confidence from a G (370Z) owner...sample size of one/for what it's worth, etc etc.
