First Oil change with use of a MAGNET

I like to do my first oil change at 500 miles. I did so today. After draining the OEM oil, I ran a large magnet thru the oil catch pan. The results were quite surprising.
The magnet picked up HUNDREDS of metal shards, some as big as a quarter inch.
The attached photo shows the gory details.

Im waiting till 7500 ill let you guys know if my engine blows up....

Remember they design these cars to be idiot proof, even if you change your oil every 3k one accidental shift into 3rd instead of 5th will do more damage than i will by going with the oem recommended maintenance schedule....

My 2 cents

Lord knows I've bounced off the rev limiter down shifting by accident. There's safeguards in place for that... Btw, changed the oil at 7500 with amsoil... Runs the same with better mileage

The numbers dont lie, on older cars i always change every 5k but times have changed i think we will all be ok to wait, unless you are competing in 24hr challenges every weekend

Okay. But it all goes back to the old argument: Is there such a thing as "break-in oil from the factory"? If the high moly content on that Blackstone report is to be understood as an intended and necessary break-in additive, then perhaps we should not change the oil early. However, some have argued that high moly amounts are the result of engine assembly paste on a new build and are not put there for break-in purposes.

Nobody knows the answer to this mystery.

_hollywood is referring to a mechanical over-rev. There is no safeguard for that. You could probably look it up somewhere (no sarcasm intended).
