i doubt it. the trend is to downsize, not the other way around. besides, a 3.0L v6 will make the car heavier.

simple answer is that Honda ain't about that money

in my opinion, Honda is in the best position out of the manufacturers from Japan to make an 86 fighter. There isn't anything exciting in their lineup right now and I'm sure they could make a lightweight FR if they wanted to.

the ball is in Mazda's court right now since the NC Miata is on it's way out. So the world is waiting to see what fruits the partnership with Fiat on the new miata chassis will bear.

Mitsubishi's done for. I'm not even gonna go there

Nissan could most definitely introduce a 'S16' but then they run the risk of diluting their product line... if the car is inexpensive then there would be no reason to buy a Z.
However, there are rumors going around that the next Z will be much lighter and have a 4 cyl turbo rather than a V6. The recent partnership with Mercedes Benz can also open up some possibilities. Strange but I'm eagerly anticipating what will occur.

I don't think Suzuki has any reason to fight the 86. Who knows though.

And of course, we know what Subaru and Toyota are doing.

Remember the customer is always right, so don't argue with us. My wife owns a CR-V and it's just average, it doesn't stand out above it's competition.

Accord: Boring, average, nothing special.
Civic: From Motor Trend: Honda Civic ownership is very uneventful.
CR-Z: Sport-Hybrid? Really? 0-60 in 9 secs doesn't seem very sporty to me.
Fit: pretty cool looking if you have to drive a wagon. But 117hp makes it a dog.
Insight: The unwanted stepchild clone of a Prius and can't even manage a similar MPG.

Sorry to say this drift artist but Hyundai > Honda now. You guys better step it up.

I agree with this, Honda and Toyota had both sunk. Toyota managed to become exciting again-- with one car no less. Quite remarkable, honestly. I'd like to see Honda become exciting again. There is no car that i want from Honda anymore. There's barely anything i want from Acura anymore either-- i've looked up some of them and they're around 3,800lbs.

I think Toyota may have just pushed all other manufacturers to make an exciting RWD car. In my opinion, i think they should all1 make a car to compete.

1. "They all" meaning other Japanese car companies; Nissan, Mitsubishi, Honda, Acura.

Don't forget the LFA and upcoming NSX. If you meant exciting cars that are affordable though, then yep agree, neither manufacturer is very exciting these days.

At least Toyota somehow managed to hit a home run with the FR-S.

My mistake, i meant affordable cars. The LFA and NSX are all but nonexistent to me.

Ah ok I figured that's what you meant. Last I heard, there were rumors that Toyota would be resurrecting the Supra and Honda was thinking about bringing back the S2000. Welcome news...

If true, i'll be extremely excited. Man, i wish i were rich-- i'd have so many cars. Expensive luxury-sports cars don't interest me and i'd likely not buy anything over $35,000; the fun is in buying cheaper cars and modding them into very surprisingly capable cars.

I've certainly been disappointed in Honda, but they have not entirely lost their edge. For example, the 2.4 liter/6MT combo in the TSX, ILX, and Civic Si is fantastic. The motor loves to rev and sounds great, and the MT is one of the best around. It's classic Honda all the way. Also, the TSX probably has the best ride/handling balance of any FWD sedan I've driven; it feels almost like an Audi, not an older harsh-riding Honda. And the TL with SH-AWD and 6MT is by most accounts a great car. (Too bad it's so damn fugly!)

Unfortunately, there haven't been too many other bright spots in the lineup, and the enthusiast-worthy flourishes seem almost like afterthoughts rather than part of their core approach. Honda could regain its enthusiast cred with a great S2000 successor, and possibly a couple of Type-S or Type-R models. The ILX simply cries out for Type-S treatment; even in 2.4/6MT guise it isn't really a sport sedan.

Yeah people are always surprised when I tell them that. They ask me why I didn't buy a BMW or Lexus instead of my *gasp* Scion. They don't get that I like cheap, fun cars that I can modify and track without worrying too much.

Hard concept to grasp I guess...

They should bring back the prelude, with a 300hp vtec v6, targa top, and rwd, that would be something special.

But im assuming we will get a watered down hybrid with a 10k dollar mugen lip kit and a sports tuned axleback exhaust

RIP honda it was fun while it lasted...
