Preferably with the ability to pull the car out whenever I want. Would like suggestions too!

I like the sound of that! Link to the mud flaps?

Sounds like we need a discussion about snow tires and possibly cable chains for BC edges of winter October/April!

I have found the following regarding tire sizing.
http://www.ajdesigner.com/fl_tire/tire.php

215/45R-17(OD =24.62", circumference =77.34", tread /section width =8.4",side wall height= 3.81")

205/55R16 (OD 24.2, circumference 78.2", tread /section width 8.07", side wall height =4.44", 60.6mph compared to 60 mph for the 215/45R-17)

195/55R-16 (OD 24.4", circumference 76.8",tread /section width 7.68", side wall height 4.22", 59.6mph compared to 60 mph for the 215/45R-17))

15" wheels are too small

5x100 bolt pattern for wheels.

Anyone have any comments on which brand of snows they have had good experience with traction and tread wear wise?

I've had no issues with tread wear or performance with Blizzak WS-60 or WS-70s tires in the past, but this time around I think I'll give Michelin X-Ice Xi3 a try.

There are a bunch or OEM Subaru 16 inch wheels that would work. You could get some 16x7 GC goldies or even 02 wrx split five spoke. All would be cheap and strong for winter fun.

GoodYear Ultra Grip Ice WRT
205/55/16 or 215/60/16.
It's rated 4.8 out of 5 on 1010tires.com.

It's too much work to store the car for the whole winter season. For those who planning to do it. Check out http://www.wikihow.com/Store-a-Car for details.

Hope it helps.

I'm undecided. On one hand I know the car will be brilliant in the snow with it's light weight and perfect balance (with a proper set of snow tires added, of course). On the other hand, it will be my first new car purchase and I think I'd rather garage it in the winter and drive a beater around so the BRZ doesn't have to get blasted by sand and salt every day. But then I'll have two fair-weather toys unless I sell the MR2 or make it a track car. Decisions, decisions...

Tirerack will ship right to your door with all the taxes, duties, etc. priced out so that you don't pay any extra when they're delivered. They broker their own shipments so you can see exactly what you'll be paying when you check out.

Personally, I'd go local unless you're ordering more than 4 and picking them up in the States. I ordered a set of R-S3s through TR before and it basically worked out to be the same if I bought local. I'll probably get my winters from Tires23, if that helps at all.

any info on the borders? do you just pay the 13% ?
I don't mind picking it up there as I am planning to go to buffalo sometime near thanksgiving
As I check tires1010 its almost 300-400 dollar difference for Michelin tire
