Stock ECU

I was looking for a quote on a OEM ECU. I plan on purchasing a tune but it voids the warrantee which comes with the car. In my wonderfully thought out plan I've decided to purchase a stock ECU to drop in my car if I ever need to utilize the warrantee.

Thanks

~Craig

ECUTek tuned ECU's can be flashed back to stock if you ever need to take your car in for warranty so why waste money on another ECU?

I know its a LOT to read, but read Vsconti's tune info thread. You will learn a lot about it.

No, corporate cannot tell if it has been flashed with ECUTek AS LONG as you flash back to stock.

saw a thread on here so I asked my contact at subaru...my stealerships service manager confirms me they can see a field that shows the 'write count' on the ecu, anything greater than = 1 its been reflashed. he's very pro mod and rallys his sti.

sorry Sportsguy83, I trust him unless you have evidence otherwise

So the consensus here is dealerships can tell if the ECU has been reflashed, meaning purchasing a stock ECU in case there is a need for warrantee claim is a good idea?

^ this explains it perfectly.

Your service guy might know some things but I've personally have used this tool and know how it works. I've also used it side by side a service rep while Subaru north America was checking ecu status before accepting a large warranty claim.

The tools can put a flash count on the ecu just like the ecutek tool can. That flash count is only good for the dealer tool just like the ecutek flash count is only good for the ecutek tool. They can't see each others flash count. The dealer tool only puts a flash count in the ecu when a recall is in place that calls for a flash update. That's the only time. Subaru north America can have the dealer pull up a screen that will tell them if the ecu data is NOT stock. Dealer doesn't know what the data is or means as its only a string of what looks like random numbers - but it's not random numbers

They only check this kind of stuff for warranty work on a blown motor lol

These guys aren't the warranty police, they want you in and out - that's how they make money
