Are you guys running standard componants with the 6 1/2 in the door and tweeter in the dash? What about the 4" dash speaker? I am going to do a build soon too and was curious about what speakers to choose, whether to do a mid bass in the doors, etc...

I have Hybrid Audio L3SE 3.65" Wideband Driver in the dash, and L6V1 7.1" Midbass in the doors. sounds phenominal!

NO tweeter. just the 4 speakers.

I'm running 6.5's with 1" (about) tweets, very easy to mount. I had a three way with a 3" mid, but that just wasn't working well.

As for that JL amp, I'd recommend a 5 channel, these cars have such small trunks, a single amp doing the whole system seems better in my mind. $420 or so for the Alpine PDX-V9, gotta say I love this amp. Going to get another for the wife's stang I think.

It's small and powerful, I have gains on my Morel's at a bit under half and the sub is a bit over half and that's actually too much right now.

Focal and Morel are both great, getting some 130 KR's for my wife. Should be about as nice as my Elates I suspect, though I've not heard the KR myself yet. Find them used if you can, check car audio forums. DON'T BUY FROM CRUTCHFIELD! Heck even Amazon usually sucks on car audio prices.

Yes, most good component sets are a mid driver and tweeter. Doing a 3-way setup is definitely possible, but most 3.5's are too deep. I understand there's only about 1.5 inches of depth available. You could certainly do it, sq could improve, but it would be one more amp channel to crossover, etc if you were to do it right. The easiest approach thats good for 98% of audio enthusiasts is a standard set of 2-way components. Use a passive crossover and run each set from a single channel or go active and dedicate an amp channel to each driver individually. I am using Pioneer TS-C720PRS (mid-woofer and tweet) that are now out of production, but sweet Jesus do they sound good. I prefer to cut the tweeters a little lower than the passive crossover, really brings life into them.

That's pretty much how I did it. The Morel's have a bi-ampable crossover so I'm partial active, 4 100w channels into four speakers up front. The rear isn't even missed. Sounds VERY good that way.

Z0rr0, you are crazy man! Paying like that, damn! I got my Morel's used, $1500 set for $500 bucks, in perfect shape, but I lucked out and found a pair used, which isn't easy for good speakers.

You can also buy speakers drivers off Parts-Express.com and a few other sites, and "build-your-own" but then you need to either go completely active or get proper crossovers. And matching speakers becomes more of a hassle. But it can be a LOT cheaper than the high end car comp sets.

I think retail on what I have is around $1100.
I'm not into them for close to that.

Having listened to them, however, worth every penny of the retail cost.
the Tech Support / Sales Manager for Hybrid lives in my town, he came over with his personal truck and let me demo a similar setup for almost an hour. Talk about personal service. The CEO responds to emails on the weekend. customer service is very important to me, and these guys just love what they do.

I am building a SQ vehicle. I may even compete with it.
right now, i'm planning a Car-PC, with a studio sound card. fully active to all speakers.

7.1" L6V1 = doors
3.65" L3SE = dash
10" sub (possibly an image dynamics IDQ 10 = trunk

Time alignment, phasing, EQ, crossovers, all done by the PC.
should be a thing of beauty when done. still deciding on what amps to use.

You think I could make these fit with the right bracket? [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Focal-130A1-SG-component-speaker/dp/B008SGP1HA/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1347072454&sr=8-4&keywords=Focal+Access+130+A1"]http://www.amazon.com/Focal-130A1-SG-component-speaker/dp/B008SGP1HA/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1347072454&sr=8-4&keywords=Focal+Access+130+A1[/ame] Lets just say I picked up the last set that crutchfield had on sale for 120 bucks.

You'd have to make a baffle, but they'll fit just fine.

depends on where you place the amp. if under the seat, probably enough length. remember the wire has to go from the amp to the crossover, then 2 runs from the crossover to the mid in the door, and the tweet in the dash, sail panel, etc.

I used nearly 100ft running four runs to the front of the car from the trunk. But yeah, if under seat with only two runs, you should be good.
