If you had just said that yes you have put them in your spare and it's working that would have been enough for me. The only reason some of us were questioning it is because way to many people have been stating speculation, or opinion as fact without having done it themselves, or being able to site there source. If you've acutally done it I'm good with that. May I suggest doing a separate thread with a good write up on what you did and how? That may help put this issue to rest.

REALLY GUYS???? Did none of you read my post? NO tpms light...PERIOD with my wheels and tires installed and the sensors are no where near the car with over 1500 miles with all sorts of driving. Vsc and all works and deactivates like it should!

They bill this car as being a driver's car and from day one since we have seen the near completed car they have bragged about being able to put 4 wheels and tires in the car to haul to autox and track days. Dont you think they would want to make it so some how when you put wheels on at the track that dont have sensors and still be able to use the functions of vsc etc? That would be really dumb if they hyped driving it at the track and have you get there and not be able to use the functions critical to what type of driving your doing!

Some who don't want to pay for sensors are in need of a work around, and that's what threads like this are about.

Model/package if applicable (premium/limited): BRZ Limited Transmission: MT Build date: 4/12 Experiencing problems without sensors in the car: No - If "yes" explain experience and how many miles until issues: - If "no" then how many miles without issues: 1500 mi ---------------- By getting as much info as possible we may be able to get some insight on if it is a build date or model difference as to why some have issues some don't and sticky it!

I have aftermarket wheels without the TPMS's in my car. If I drive around town for a short drive, the light doesn't come on. If I do a longer drive, the TPMS light blinks and then goes solid.
I need to do more testing, but it seems like once the light comes on, then the next time I start the car, the light will automatically blink and then stay solid...even if my next drive is a short one. However, once I park back in my garage near the stock wheels with TPMS's in them, I THINK the light reverts back to OFF until I do another long drive. If this is right, which I believe it is, then michael317 seems correct that rotation is not required for our TPMS's. |

Holy crap, someone has experience driving on the Toyota system!

Based on my real-world experiences (and some of the posts in this thread) and since the twins' TPMS system is a Toyota system, I am almost completely sure that the sensors won't require rotation to report normal operation. |

Just confirmed ... Using OP method, we are able to keep the TPMS light off.
So confirmed BRZ/FRS doesn't use rotational type sensor like the Subaru STI / Legacy. |

here's the thing though...
If you are willing to throw the TPMS into the spare (there by making the spare totally unusable), you might as well just build a TPMS bomb and take your spare out.

these do not require rotation. I deflated my tire. the sensor tripped. I inflated it, the light turned off. No rotation in the sequence.
I hated the idea of TPMS before I had them ... now I like them. I get a heads up when pressure is low. It also alerted me to having a screw stuck through my tire before I drive around and wrecked something.

UPDATE: OK interesting experience today...I had the TPMS light yesterday after a long drive. Last night, I parked in my garage right next to the stock wheels. To my surprise, this morning the TPMS light started in the ON position, even though I was parked next to my stock wheels.
When I got back to my garage, I left the car running next to the stock wheels for one minute and the light went OFF!! I turned off the car and restarted and the light was in the OFF position. So I can confirm 100% that rotation is not required. You just need to make sure that you have your car running for at least 1 minute near the stock tires to reset the light back to OFF. Hope that helps!! |
