No rotation is needed ......... Sensors will send signal to TPMS CPU no matter what. Thats why sensors must be kept in the car. I am TPMS installer tech. Best example if you want to TPMS system work on your new wheels without disabling the system or have to buy new sensors. Band w/ cradle. Its a cradle that holds the TPMS sensor and the metal band is strapped in the inside of the rim.

After a very quick search I don't see any credible source to say that they have either toyota (no rotation needed) or subaru (rotation) sensors, nor do I see anyone who has tried the pipe bomb/spare/parking next to them. Again not trying to be argumentative just trying to facilitate informed discussion. I agree that if the OP does in fact have data to show that just by parking next to his stock wheels the light goes off them I'd like to know that. I'm quite interested in getting an answer on this so I can build a pipe for them or throw them in my spare like the OP suggested. Last edited by bAS1c; 09-06-2012 at 06:18 PM. |

Assuming the sensors do not require rotation (pretty sure they don't), I see no reason why the OP's suggestion wouldn't work. If all four sensors are taped inside the spare and reading proper PSI, how could that not work? I'd rather just find a way to shut the bloody thing off entirely, but...

Does anyone know if the car will allow you to disable TRAC / VSC if the TPMS system is throwing a flag?

I can't sight a source for Toyota sensors specifically not working. There are plenty of people who have gotten it to work on Toyotas, but as far as I can tell no one with anything newer then a 2008. I can find tons of people who couldn't get it to work but most don't provide details (make/model/year) so its hard to know if it didn't work because of the system, or something they did. It's always harder to prove a negitive result then it is a positive one. Since no one has tried it with our cars that is why I say please have done it yourself or site the source if your going to say it works. I have a set sensors that will be going into my winter wheels. If I find myself with to much time on my hands this weekend I'll build a canister and test it out myself. I'll be very happy if it works, but I'm doubtful.

Thanks for the detailed response as all of the data is kinda spread out on this topic. I saw your post that mentioned them being Toyota sensors.
I hope it works too, and await your test results. As a side note I've had wheels with no tpms in them on the car since Monday and haven't seen the light yet. |

No, but then again I don't do that very often at all. So am I right in assuming that if the light doesn't come on until the 40-50 mile mark that I won't really see the light that often. I estimate that I drive 40 miles without turning the engine off maybe once a month.
