What do you mean by 'Test Drive'? You mean like drive the sh*t out of it while going to the body shop? I mean, it COULD happen but it really depends on the person. Most people that I knew that worked in the dealership maintenance never drove the sh*t outta anything. Last thing they honestly want to do is tear something up. They also know about the break in period. But then again, there are some guys who just don't care and don't see it as their problem.

Now, a used car is a different matter all together. Maintenance knows that the dealership is willing to put work into a traded in car or if not, then that car is going to the auction. Give it hell! I remember when we got a 350Z traded in once, and a salesman took it out because he might be interested in it. I heard him peeling down the roads for miles. Chirping and Burping. Once he got it back he said he wasn't interested. I've seen a bunch of people do this to cars that were traded in or just got in from the auction house.

Test drive as they have few check list they need to do before they can sell the car to anyone. That's the reason why even brand new car has 10~20 miles on odo.

& no, I didn't mean as they drive like crazy

LOLZ! Sorry, don't know why I got that impression. Yeah, sometimes they do simple check list test drives on it if there's a question about the integrity of the car. But they certainly don't do it for every vehicle on the lot. Most of those miles are people joyriding without the intention of purchasing..... (Guilty. Sorry WRX! I really wanted you! But I need moar miles to the gallons! I WANT ALL DA MILES!) There is always a dealer checklist/inspection during the delivery process so you should just be EXTRA EXTRA thorough when doing this. If you see something wrong, but still wanna get home, make sure you get an 'IOU' from the Sales Manager before you drive the car home. That way they will fulfill any obligations to you and you will have it in writing.

Can you buy the front bottom skirt and cover it? That part can found somewhere in this forum.

Yeah I understand they have to drive it for inspection reasons but now they have to drive it to a separate location to have the damage fixed. The sales guy assured me that his sales manager will be the only one driving it....not some young buck from the shop that just wants a joy ride. I should have pics sometime this morning to see how bad the damage really is. Also, I live 2.5 hours away from the dealer, otherwise I would go right over to transport the car myself.

Pictures are a good starting point. But honestly, what's 2.5 hours for something you're spending $25k on. I'll drive that far for lunch. Just go look so you can make an informed decision.

I would tell them to leave your car alone, theyve done enough damage. Hopefully its a small unnoticeable scratch that they discount from your total.

Have them order you a Lip to cover the scrathes? They can write it off on their insurance as prior to delivery damage.
My dealer gave me a we owe ticket for a full free tint job up to 500.00 cause the guy that did the window acid etching dropped acid on my drivers window and left a thumbtack drop mark.

They will still drive the car for the Pre-Delivery Inspection just to make sure everything that should be right is. Even though you tell them 'don't drive my car', they will to be sure it's safe for you to take. I did PDI for several years for Pontiac and you'd be surprised at what little things you find in just a couple mile drive. Ever get in an older car with conventional type power steering (pump/gearbox) and turn the steering wheel from the 10 o'clock position to the 2 o'clock position and the front wheels didn't move? It's pretty scary and I had a car do that. Steering box worm gear was not properly adjusted......

While you don't want it driven, what if that type thing happened when you left the lot and wrecked the car. Dealer has it in writing 'Don't drive my car'. You asked him to write that down on your sales ticket when you bought the car. Whose at fault?

Chances are they're going to test it, regardless of what the salesman wrote down, they don't need a lawsuit.......

Better safe than wrecked.

similar thing happened to me... but since no one notices it without me point it out, I had them cut me a check.

You'll eventually scrape the front lip of this, and I rather not have it painted so soon after getting it....

Moving from a lifted jeep to this car. I have also had the unfortunate happen. Scraping the underside of the lip. Its not noticable but hurts to the core. good luck with everything and hope it turns out well.
