Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that your camera didn't work. But that extra resistance you felt when you shoved in each pin was either the metal terminal eating the plastic shell, or (more likely), the plastic shell compressing or otherwise bending the nose of the terminal.

These terminals and pins are so small, there's almost no tolerance for anything to be out of place.

What do you mean? We should be using pins on the 28 pin harness for the backup instead of the 16 pin?

No, rear camera input is definitely on the 16-pin socket.

In addition, you can have video with your aux audio by adding another RCA jack to the empty slots on the 28-pin harness (pins 13 and 14).

OK, until I receive SVXdc's RCA -> Tyco pins to plug into the stock harness, I just ghetto engineered a solution for now just to show proof of concept.

BOYO Ultra Slim license plate camera installed:

Close-up of how I routed the wiring up through the license plate light opening:

Looks really good. Anyone suggest a tiny (non license plate mounted) camera with single cord with power (I'll run it up and tap the dash radio + line)?

I used the Rydeen Miny camera, sounds like exactly what you want but im not sure where you could get one other than a retailer.

For an even smaller unit, maybe the Rydeen Duo: http://www.vehifit.com/files/RydeenHDZHrevD.pdf

I have the BRZ Limited, so I didn't have that space above the license plate to mount one of these (the trunk release button is there). Since I wanted to keep a centered camera, the ultra slim license plate camera was the only real option for me. It's pretty stealth though, and while my closeup shows the wire visibly, it's actually black and only shows a little bit on the upper right corner. No problem for a black or gray car, anything else, however, you'll definitely notice it.

OK, I just ordered the Rydeen Mobile ZH07-150B from eBay and the RCA w\pins from SVXdc. Assuming everything goes well with the eBay order I should have a factory looking setup for around $160. Considering I paid $180 for the Homelink mirror this seems like a good value to me.

Those camera's are crazy expensive. I don't know how they can be 10x better than the cheap $20 ones. Anyone have pictures showing the differences?

I saw little difference between my BOYO Ultra Slim and the $12 Chinese generic camera. The Chinese generic one was plastic and allowed moisture to build up on the lens though, whereas the BOYO is metal and watertight. A lot smaller too, if you didn't know it was there, you'd miss it as just a license plate holder. The $12 one was a major eye sore, sticking out like my car was a borg or something.

Long term durability is definitely something to consider with these cameras. Its an electronic part that sits outside of your vehicle through the elements. Might as well just buy a nice one and know its not gonna break.

Or buy 3-4 $20 ones and still save $100 or so.

I've got one of those cheap home camera systems, 4 not so great camera's outside. Have lasted 4 Wyoming winters so far, even the crappy ones last, unless they fail right away.

So do we have a plug and play harness available yet? Is SVXdc's wiring available?

I'd really like to use the OEM camera with a plug and play harness set-up. I'm trying to figure out how to get the JDM trunk trim piece with the knockout already in place for the OEM camera.

I guess that works for most people. Im lucky enough to work at a shop where we sell Rydeen cams so mine was wholesale.
