I'm not kidding when I say this turbo kit is the difference between me buying this car or not.
the benefits of this kit to me are: -Getting the real boxer sound. -Conservative boost with great gains while retaining reliability. -This is the only reasonably priced turbo kit I've seen probably EVER. -AVO is known for quality and have been turboharging subies for ever. If this AVO announces official pricing and it's under $3,600 I'm not kidding when I say I'll buy the kit before I even buy the car. I'm watching you guys closely! ![]()

One of my biggest regrets is never buying an AVO kit for my RS Ehh, the EJ25 doesn't take to boost nearly as well as the FA20 anyway...

Question though - I'm not well versed when it comes to turbos, what's the difference between internally and externally wastegated turbos? Which is better? Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2

Can you guys fabricate an Even Length Header and leave that as an option?
Seeing how it lines up to the stock set up I'd assume it'd be great and increase sales ~

External wastegates became popular because many aftermarket turbochargers simply use an OEM or off the shelf exhaust housing, and the internal wastegate wasn't large enough to keep up with the higher boost of larger compressor wheels that were fit. It would overpower the small wastegates, and boost creep would come into play. The solution was to simply move that to an external wastegate setup. There is, of course, another solution - make a larger exhaust housing with larger wastegate. However, that solution requires somebody to actually cast and mill the housings themselves. To toot our own horn, and to be also totally blunt about it, we are one of the few that make our own exhaust and compressor housings. Thus we haven't gone down the external wastegate path - if there were boost creep issues, we'd engineer that issue out on the exhaust housings. That's why our AVO380's are running just fine at 30psi on diesel racing trucks on an internal wastegate setup. But lets be realistic here - a 12:1 compression 2.0-liter engine isn't going to run 30psi, other than on very exotic builds. 5-10psi is likely the limit on a "street" build that's both daily driver friendly and reliable. At those psi/boost levels internal vs. external wastegating is not much of an issue. |

I know you mentioned the welding in the picture is just for placement. I've seen some turbo headers crack welds under heat/pressure/weight. Any cross weld bracing for final product? Doesn't look like is can handle the weight of the turbo with the heat and vibrations. Unless there's a bracket holding the turbo somewhere that I can't see.

There will be a bracket holding the turbo in place - we wouldn't have the exhaust manifold holding it in place unless we did a cast nickel-iron exhaust manifold! (which, admittedly, we have done on the LS1 twin turbo kits) But not on this!

Lol, cast iron mani, that would ruin the weight bias quite a bit!! Sounds good, price is good, count me in for first couple of orders, I've read alot of good things about AVO so far.

This kit looks like it would be a snap to install/take off if going to the dealer for anything. The price is certainly right. All I need is a dyno graph and I'm sold. Then I can finally steal @Visconti for a day and we can have our own turbo fun haha |
