For everyone saying this is intentional, then how come the thread linked by Azian has several people who have been able to wipe it off? Wouldn't it be part of the manufacturing process(if intentional) rather than an application(able to be wiped off)?

Sweet.. I leave work just to come home to it.. I'll impart the knowledge I have to help explain this purple circle phenomenon and let people know more about auto glass than they care to know.

Tempered glass (vents, doors, quarters, and back-glasses) is heated to an extreme and then cooled rapidly to give it its strength. This process is called quenching and is what's visible when looking at it with a polarized lens, discoloring and sometimes distorting the objects on the other side of the glass. It is rarely visible with the naked eye; the fact that every car has these spots tells me it not that. The spotting that we're all seeing is what appears to be a solar coating that is part of the manufacturing process. These coatings are designed to reduce the affect of sunlight on the interior temperature of the vehicle. This is often not visible on tempered glass because the majority of solar coated pieces are either a dark gray shade and not a green tint, or is a layer in laminated glass (windshields).

I'll know more once this glass is released to wholesalers. I'll surely be requesting they send me a set of glass for my inventory as there are quite a few BRZs and FR-S running around the greater Seattle area now. That and I know that this being a brand new vehicle it's going to drive me crazy getting little chips in my windshield so it will probably be getting replaced a couple times a year.

They've been able to wipe off the white specs that you see in the photo, most likely sap. The circular pattern is not
