Yell out, "Autobots roll out!" and watch as your car transforms into a manual.

j/k

Like everyone has already said. Sell it and buy what you want.

BS

A warranty doesn't get you a new car in the event of a crash.

My current race car shell was an automatic. It cost $300 complete, driveline swap from the damaged chassis was easy and inexpensive and a lot easier than finding a cheap manual transmission non-running car.

I'm doing an auto to manual conversion on a 97 240SX SE right now also, it was an auto that sold for 3k LESS just because it wasn't a manual. It was purchased because it was a single owner car with 66k miles on it, swap in the manual and SR20DET and massively increase it's value.

It's not always a dumb idea.
You can get the SR20DET and trans for less than $2000. This guy's looking at 3x that just for the transmission.

It's a bad idea because there are not junkyard FR-S's yet, and because he's wiping out the value and warranty of a brand new car.

Several people have already said these swaps make sense when there are junkyard parts available.

this doesnt make any sense. if he sells you the frs for 15k and still owes 7k, then the net result of him trading his g37 in is 8k which is a shitty deal. either something is up or your friend is retarded.

eithe way dont swap the tranny. its not worth it to lose the entire drivetrain warranty on a new car. just sell it and buy a new manual one.

Did you actually read my post?

I agreed and stated it was dumb in this case, but not dumb in general as that poster stated.

On a brand new car?

Sell it and buy what you want or pass entirely.

You'll have to swap ECU's, axles, other odds and ends, tons of work, downtime, voided warranty, etc. Not worth it.

The tranny alone is $6500 according to my parts department. My dealership is the one that fixed the FR-S without fluid from the factory.

To the OP, if it's a manual that you want, buy this car and sell it. Pocket the extra cash to use as a DP for the manual that you want. AAT to MT swaps are usually reasonable on older cars/trucks. Not so much on a 2013 that's been out for 2-3 months.
