changing the transmission of an fr-s from automatic to manual.
I was solely bent on getting a manual transmission,mainly because I like to "feel" the car and so on. You shifters out there know what I mean;). But anyway, here's my dilema. My friend has a whiteout fr-s in automatic that he would sell me for about 15k. brand new,its going to be shipped to him in october. dont ask me how he is able to sell it for so cheap lol. I don't know myself. I just want to know how much it would cost and everything to change the transmission to manual.

It depends on the cost of the parts, but it's going to be a bit expensive since you can't pick up a suitable transmission anywhere but a dealer. Same for the pedal parts. You may also need to change the ECU. Of course, the paddle shifters will become useless - maybe you could change them into radio controls.
In the end, it could cost enough to make this not such a great deal if you do the work yourself. If you have it done by someone else, you end up above the cost of a new car with a 6spd. You're also going to hurt the resale value and void your warranty. My recommendation is to just buy the car and drive it as-is. Or if you're set entirely on a 6mt, then buy one instead of trying to make one from an auto. If you still want a manual, you can still sell this one for more than you paid for the next 2 years or so. -Justin |

Sorry man, something doesn't add up. Anyone else find it fishy his friend is getting a brand new frs auto for ten 12k under msrp, and its being"shipped" to him? And then he is going to just sell it at that price?

I would buy it, sell it for 22K, and use that money to put into a 6MT BRZ Limited :D

Sell it at a profit, use profit as a large down payment on MT FR-S. Honestly though ... something isn't right with this picture.
