Updated production/sold cars in the U S

I was going over some data that lists how many FR-S cars have been sold in the US. There were over 1,000 less cars sold in the US in the month of July vs June. I am sure this is due to buildup of cars before they actually went on sale to the general public on June 1. It will be interesting to see how many are sold in August.

Sales by month:

May 86
June 2684
July 1649
TOTAL 4419

I looked at the BRZ data and it also had a decline in June vs July sales.

May 271
June 818
July 498
TOTAL 1587

It would be good to put these numbers into the official sales number thread, no need for duplicate posts.

Are the sales limited by production or are cars sitting on lots already?

Very few if any cars sitting on lots around here... I'd bet it's production (or more properly, delivery) limitations at play here.

Yes. Allocation numbers for the BRZ were always going to be low, so those numbers seem fine to me.

Given the targets of 20k/year for the FR-S, the 1649 figure sounds about exactly where it needs to be to meet that goal. As such, production/delivery seems to be working as intended.

ETA: I suspect the June 2012 numbers will be the largest monthly sales the FR-S will ever see, by design.

I suspect this has a lot to do with when the last cargo ship made port. I ordered my BRZ July 7th, and for most of the month the listings in Colorado were sparse, and what was left was only a single car here or there. Cars can't be sold if they're not on the lots!

It seems the big numbers for June were due to the preorders and initial deliveries of the BRZ and FRS selling out, now we're waiting for another shipment. I wonder how August will look.

Those reported May/June FR-S sales numbers have got to be wrong. The special edition “First 86” cars were not the only ones delivered at retail in May. Mine, for example, was delivered on May 29th, and many other guys on the forums were reporting delivery of their cars that same week. Toyota seems to have counted these late-May deliveries as June sales, in order to preserve May's official reporting as just for the "First 86".

Meanwhile, the 75% / 25% split between FR-S and BRZ allocation in the U.S. is perfectly consistent with what we've all read so far.

Correct. My car was delivered May 31 and I was not a First 86 customer.

Everything seems in line to me as to what Subaru has originally speculated.

The only reason I see why sales would slow is the cars sitting idle in the snow states.

Got mine on 5/23 and not a First 86er. Inspection was from May and the Registration from April.

I believe Scion instructed these dealers they could not report the sale of any nonFirst86 car until June 1.

Plus not all the first 86 cars sold. I know of a local First 86 cat that sat on the lot until at least mid-July when the original buyer opted not to take it. I am sure there are more cases of this across the country.
