the rev dipping issue
has this been found to be normal? i took a test drive last night, AC was on the whole trip. after about 10-15 min got to a red light and was stopped and the revs were fluctuating. this was a mauel transmission.
this car had supposedly just come in, but already had 50 miles on it (i was third in line for a test drive) so its possible i guess. so they're still coming out of the factory with this issue. |

Yes it is. Some have had bigger issues later on that caused a CEL and found out the cam position sensor was faulty if I remember correctly. Otherwise, the only way to get rid of it is with a tune. Look up the Visconti tune with Ecutek software. So far the people testing it said the idle is smooth now.

is this something they will be fixing in the assembly line? it's not very reassuring to see your revs drop like that. never happens in my SI

My FR-S will do this....I have no engine light yet but i do notice it drop down to around 400Rpm's and i can hear the engine knocking like its going to stall. Is this a NOTED issue that toyota will instantly be like "oh yeah if your having this issue we need to fix it NOW" or is it something to where they won't do anything without seeing and engine light first?

This was directly from the Scion "Champion" (they have crazy titles in Canada haha) here. Great guy, same guy I bought my car from. He doesn't have a date or anything but it is definitely in the pipeline.

The issue is an ECU tuning problem (overcompensation). People that are stalling out from it typically have other problems (CELs) from a crankshaft position sensor which may be faulty. It could also be that the problem has times where it fails to compensate (also from tuning) and it stalls but those seem to be very rare.
I have the 600-1000 blip at idle. Ironically, it has stopped doing it now that I am waiting for it with my ScanGauge showing engine load, ignition timing, intake air temp, and rpm. May change load for MAF/MAP instead. Either way, it's being shy!

MAYBE they will also address the torque dip issue slightly with this flash. I honestly will be calling my service writer every week in hopes of it coming out soon.

Engine idle problem
I realize this is a very old thread, but I have a 2015 Scion - FRS (13,000 mi.) and am experiencing an idle problem. If I drive the car on the freeway (60 - 65 mph) for around 30 miles, when I come to a stop, the engine idle drops to around 500 rpm, jumps back to around 900 rpm, then slowly drops and repeats the cycle about every 30 seconds or so. No engine light. It does not always happen and it occurs in the summer and the MN winter, does not matter the outside temperature or raining/snowing/or dry. I did notice that if I shut the engine off and wait at least 10 seconds, start the engine back up, the idle returns to normal.
I will be going to the dealer today for a key interlock recall and oil change and will mention it to them to see what they say. I took a video of the issue to show them. I read that a re-flash of the ECU was recommended, but reading posts indicated this could have been resolved already. Wish me luck. |
