I like the affordability and youthfulness which the Scion brand presents... Other than that, it's an awesome sports car to drive, regardless of the badge... Don't know about others, but that's why I personally chose this car.

All three vehicles (Toyota 86, Subaru BRZ, and Scion FR-S) are being produced at the Subaru Gunma plant. It's also been confirmed you can't take a Scion badge from a tC and make it fit on a 86/BRZ/FR-S. They have pins on the back for holding in place and then there's size. Also the badges on the airbag are part of the airbag, which is likely specific for the car. Thus specialized. You also missed the point of this thread, they're saying if it was released as a Toyota later, in addition to the Scion. So it wouldn't be a "high end Scion".

From watching the way other dealers have handled high-demand vehicles, there are usually two options. They bring in pre-sold cars to customer specs, and they order loaded cars for their inventory. Unless someone backs out of their order and it's what I want, the available cars will be high trim level. And no, you can't ask a dealership to remove factory-installed equipment to match the spec of a lower trim model. Impatient? I've been following rumors, test mules and concepts of this car for years now. Still, I won't buy until I drive one - and they haven't been available to drive for very long. There is also no shortage of people who have ordered cars and waited for them only to have the dealer sell them to another customer when they finally arrived. I'm not saying my local dealer would do this, but I would prefer not to give them the opportunity. -Justin |

Around where I live, there is no difference between Toyota and Scion. They're both considered "low-end". It's all Audi A4s and BMW 3 series here with the occasional Mercedes. Hyundais and Hondas are preferred if you're going that route. Toyota's SUVs are popular though.
On the street scene, I actually think the Scion brand is more respected as a tuner car than Toyota. The only respectable Toyotas are Supras or MR-2s and only hipsters who think the 240SX is too mainstream go out of their way to find an AE86. I personally don't like how any of the badges look. The "letter" style that Asian companies just don't look that nice to me. I prefer the logos and mascots that European cars come up with. So I just debadged my car, makes it look much cleaner. |

That's nice, I've been waiting seven years for a Toyota sports car and I'm still waiting. Your last point is the fault of a horrible dealer and has nothing to do with the argued point. Also, Justin.b, created this month, only 6 posts. I smell troll. Stinky, dirty, troll.

All True plus the FR-S probably saved SCION in the long run.

Well, it certainly did give it a much needed lift... A big splash of sportiness never hurts, in my opinion... Haha!

I don't mean to sound rude, but you must be very young. Toyota has a long history of making exciting cars. It's this history that inspired Akio Toyoda to spearhead this car's creation. Sure, in the past 10 years or so they took to a conservative bread-and-butter philosophy, but they're changing-- Toyota is now reviving their passion for sports cars with the creation of the 86.

There was no real need to join here before the car arrived. There were plenty of rumor/news threads about this car on every other automotive forum. I am very sorry your FR-S is not JDM enough for you. I am enjoying mine very much. ![]() -Justin |

I don't know about you guys, but when I'm driving I tend to forget that it's a scion. To be honest, I never really think about the brand. Just that I enjoy driving this car.

Does it really matter at all? If the badge on the car has you all up in arms you are missing the point of the whole car and probably drive and automatic that you attempt to "drift" and then fail and run into shit with it.
I personally don't give a rats ass about the history of the 86. I didn't buy this car because of Toyota's great racing heritage. I bought this car because it met my specifications of what a great affordable track car/daily driver should be. End of story. Any automaker could have developed this car and I'd have still bought it. So, get a life, quit bitching and crying about the god damned badges, and take your car to the track and quit being stupid.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for options and having the ability to pick what you want on the car, but right now they haven't decided to give us any of the cool shit. I think it would be the same way whether it was brought out as a Scion or not. |
