A couple of years prior to this, the engine ingested something into cyl #3. It chucked 2 rocker arms and broke the timing chain. The top of the piston looked "peppered" but otherwise didn't appear damaged. The engine was reassembled with new rings, bearings, etc.. As I remember, the pistons were even sent out to have the skirts recoated.

I suspect the piston had damage that wasn't evident on a visual inspection. Hence: boom.

SCTV (1976-84) Canadian. Yes, John Candy. The other is Joe Flaherty.
They've done some stuff since then. Only blowed up sorta a little.
