Hello everyone,
hope you can help me, because I'm a newbe in engine building. I found a lot of infos in this thread, and I recently work on the timing cover to improve oil performance on FA20. I
- opened the oil galleries' covers
- ported oil galleries
- cleaned
- used an anaerobic sealent (Loctite 518) before reinstalling the covers and a threadlocker for the bolts
- installed an high volume oil pump kit
- used an engine lube to prime the new oil pump

Now I notice a little lube leak in the rotor of oil pump, after installing the cover... If I spin a little, some lube came out (see attached picture)... Maybe it's normal, I don't know.

Do I have to worry?

Rotor with cover installed and lube leak (this is the inside view on the timing chain cover):

The only thing sealing the pump in the cover is a slight amount of friction. It's normal.

Think about it this way. It has to leak a little in order to lubricate itself.

Tracked my car for 30k miles on stock engine it finally spun a bearing in 2019. car sat for years in my shop then finally last winter we did a fully forged low compression engine with ported heads everything really nice. At the track last week it seized haven’t taken it apart yet. But I think I added the oil cooler and starved it

Damn, this hurts to hear. Was it all new components or was anything reused? There are filter screens and things that are so easy to overlook if you don't know Subarus. Sucks, I'm sorry

What oil cooler did you add and what were your oil pressure and temps? The Jackson Racing dual rad has been known restrict oil flow.

Seized? Or just won’t turn over? Usually when I think seized I think piston/rings. Oil starve will kill the #2 or #3 rod bearing long before it will seize anything.

My FA20 "seized" because of a broken piston.

On the positive side, it may not have spun any bearings which would be a pleasant change for an FA20
