How totaled is my car? Time to get a 2019?

I know stock batteries can be troublesome with these cars. Has this happened to anyone else? Best way to clean this up and check for damage?

Thanks!

I had the same battery and the stuff got all over the back of my engine bay. How did you end up cleaning it off the paint?

I know this is a necro post, but so many "authority figures" here on the first page are in disbelief, I had the OEM Panasonic, and then the Toyota branded replacement both blow up at two separate track days. Had to respray the engine bay. Switched to an Optima Yellow Top and never looked back.

Both my original 2013 BRZ and newer-to-me 2013 FRS had their batteries blow up. The FRS battery blew up on the previous owner and he never really fixed it so I had to repaint part of the firewall and down the transmission tunnel.
