Typical Tokay post. No useful information, just being contentious when you know what the guy means and he just used an incorrect term.

OP should have said "blocked" out.

Putting a "B" in front of "locked" makes it correct terminology.

See how easy that was?

There is no first gear lockout either. You just need more REVs when downshifting

Incorrect. Look at the parts breakdown in the service manual. There is a first-gear limit mechanism.

Yes, the key is to double-clutch down into first. Be mindful of vehicle speed when doing so.

Uhh, is mine broken then? Because I've always been able to downshift into 1st gear at any speed without any issues... no double-clutching necessary.

I've wondered about that since I drove someone else's which behaved like yours. Maybe the limit ball was left out when originally assembled.

Hmmmm. At what speed are you limited in downshifting to 1st?

It requires a double-clutch blip at anything above 10-ish MPH. I know what you mean. I was shocked when I first encountered one that didn't resist.

Hmm. Well here's a video I made many years ago after getting into an argument with someone on Facebook about it, lol. I downshift into 1st at 15 and 20 both without double clutching. I'll also note I had to have a new transmission installed at 40k (because my 5th gear synchro went wonky) and that transmission also doesn't require double clutching. So I'm 2 for 2 on the "defective" 1st gear lockout if that's the case.

Considering how many times people find ball detents stuck to the drain plug, not surprising It's usually the one on the 3/4 shift fork that is most common due to that fork being able to over travel too far.

Someday I'll crack open my original transmission to shim the input shaft bearing like we discussed. Will be interesting. Both of my transmissions are super picky about downshifting into first.

3/4 rod overtravel? Sounds like I need some schoolin'
