Steering Issue
Back to the forums for the Third time for a problem thats not self explanatory.
16 BRZ its having a handling issue, When Cornering and turn the wheel a it will turn and is responsive but you get to a point where it will pull super hard in whatever direction youre turning. So far ive replaced the Wheel Hubs which the bearings were bad, Ive replaced the Tire rod ends from P2M to now stock. Both slightly fixed the issue where originally it would have this issue with turning within the first 5 degrees of angle. tire rod ends made it 15 and now i replaced the ball bearings tonight and its 30 degrees before it pulls super hard now. Although it may just be placebo effect. It also has a ABS and traction control light which may or may not related, I dont have a ABS code reader. Anyways, Im lost on where to go from here. Theres a couple more things i can list that may be an issue but I want what the most likely issue is instead of throwing more and more money into it when ive already swapped the engine and attempting to daily drive it. I cant tell if the Struts are out or the springs are cut. but i hear a clunking pretty much all the time when driving. The car has Godspeed control arms which looks when the wheels are full lock have been adjusted for more angle. The tires are stretched on F1R F21s 18x9.5 or 10.5. With Valera Sport 225/45 with good tread. Im not sure where to go from here should i research how to adjust control arms and try to get the steering angle back close to stock. Struts? Get wheels balanced or get new tires that are not stretched? Thank you so much in advance! |

So many many mods that screw up handling it is hard to diagnose looking at words. Did you modify it? If so put it back to stock. Get the ABS codes and report back. If that is not the problem it needs to be fixed anyway.

Have you re-centered the steering angle sensor?

The only “Mod” Ive done so far is putting the 17 engine in it, other than that its all been maintenance from my end, What ive found installed from previous owners JDL uncatted headers, Straight pipe, Rocketbunny over fenders, then the previous parts i listed before, Nrg steering wheel? I believe? Thats all ive found so far.

I havent, Could that be causing the pulling insanely hard on corners? to reset it, its behind the steering wheel and then turn the black dial all the way to the left then 3.25 to the right? It has a quick release wheel could that be part of that issue?

When you pull the codes, which code(s) is it?

I had issues similar to what you're describing. Get the steering wheel/hub/qr off.
Take a look at the clock spring behind the aftermarket hub make sure that the arrow is within the section it's designated for. The calibration of the clock spring determines how much steering assist the car has.

Who ever did my quick release decided to take out the stock wheel decided to be cheap and took the clockspring out, i havent had time to do the codes and i dont have my own reader for anything thats not CEL. Im guessing it’s directly related to the clockspring since its completely missing…

Replaced the stretched tires for tires that properly fit on my wheel width and it seems to have fixed the issue!
