Lug Clearance - Issue
I just got a set of 18x9.5 Motegi wheels on an outstanding deal in order to work on fitment which will allow me to order a better set of forged wheels in the future.
Upon installing them I was pretty amazed about the lack of socket clearance to tighten down a lug nut. I am wondering what the best way to remedy this is before I have the wheels machined. As it stands, I can not tighten the wheels with a socket. Thinking out loud, maybe I can run a longer stud and a much deeper lug to be able to keep a socket with enough engagement to turn the lug? ![]() |

Look up "Tuner lugs". Useful for aftermarket wheels that have little room. Most auto stores have them in stock
I also have Motegi (MR116) as winter wheels and have to use "tuner lugs"

Spline drive lug nuts require an adapter, but often run much narrower than standard hex lug nuts
You can also look into internally keyed lug nuts where the tool fits on the inside (rather than over the outside), like Project Kics Monolith |

Yup - SplineDrives (or other "tuner" lug nuts) are the way to go. Stock lug nuts (or anything with a similar outer size) are too big for a lot of aftermarket wheels. SplineDrives have TONS of room on my wheels.
