It's above your left leg when in the driver's seat. Easy to access as there's no cover.

Drove my 86 about 300kms today after picking it up. Whilst I have a GTS and have the digital speedo - I tried hard not to use it to try and give an opinion on the dial one.
Really, the dial one is fine - intact I think the size and spacing of the numbers is awesome. The gaps between 10 km/h are plenty big enough for you to see roughly half way - and lets be honest, you don't need to know your speed to the exact kilometer - all Aussie speed limits are in 10km/h increments, so you'll easily see when you are 5 over. On top of that, it didn't take long for me to get the "feel" for what speed I was doing. |

Dadhawk, have you tried mating the obd output to any hud units?
That would just be so amazing! |

No, I haven't but it would be interesting to see the results. I only used mine sporatically and typically when I'm doing some troubleshooting before taking to the mechanic or whatever. When I do use it I either use it with my Droid X phone or my tablet.

Ok, so it took a while to find this thread!
Now, from my experience! Once you are use to where to look, it doesnt become to difficult to see what speed your doing! BUT, its alot easier to learn RPM's for gears to know your speed. I have 2 stored in my memory for your viewing pleasure! - 1st one is easy, and i find for my area, the most common speed limit 60km/h 3rd Gear / 3000RPM is 60km/h on the dot! - 2nd one is for 80km/h 4th Gear / 2500RPM is 80 km/h on the dot! Love this car!

I assume this is the rpm/speed at which you stop accelerating (then shift up to cruise), as I'd use 5th at 60 km/h and 6th for anything above 67 km/h ...

personally i would be using 4th for 60km all the time.. but then again ive heard this is the kinda car that you should be one gear lower than you're normally used to..

In Canada but with the digital readout I still find it difficult to read analogue speedometer and all you see on the gauges are the red needles when you have sunglasses on in the daytime, and yes it is sunny and hot here. You can turn on the parking lights but a manual over ride to turn on the dash lights would have been a big help.
