Right, he is aware of that. But like I said, his reason was the airflow being poor as 5th gear will pull for much longer and create much more heat with very little airflow. I don't know a lot about the science of it, but I have certainly seen dyno's make a big fuss about having a proper large fan with realistic flow based on the dyno speed. So I assume there is some good reasoning there.

We dyno in 4th. 5th would cause cooling issues on most dynos as the runs would be long.



The issue is not the 1:1 ratio as when you enter the engine RPM it automatically corrects for gear ratio.



The issue is loading the motor. You do load the engine more in the higher gears if it's a loaded dyno and that results in high combustion chamber heat and often more power unless you overwhelm the cooling system. However 4th for this car is sufficient and if you are doing comparisons keep using the same gear.
