How much should 6 weeks of warranty be worth?

So Im currently working on a deal for a base 22 BRZ, but there is a small hiccup. I found out thru another Subaru Dealership that the one I want in WRB base model manual, has already had its RDR done. Meaning that the warranty has already started on it. When I confronted my salesman with this info, he talked to his manager, and his manager came clean. They did it to try and prevent other dealerships from trying to trade for it. Or maybe that's a lie and they are trying to pad their numbers or something. Regardless of the reason why they did this, they did it, and thankfully I know about it now. I want this car, nothing else in this model configuration is available for another 4months or so and I don't want to wait. I am now trying figure out how much people think approximately 6 weeks of warranty should be worth? Do I ask them to knock $1000 off? Ask them to cover my winter tires and some BRZ all weather floor mats? Bit of a strange situation but the car has been in the showroom pretty much since it landed as best as I can tell. Only 10km's on it.

I would ask for 1500 under MSRP. Start there. But I would settle for 1000 or 1000 worth of items like your snow tires, etc.. But my advice is start high and know where your limit is. Mine would be 1000 below MSRP. Then again I got 1500 below and another 750 from Subaru. Lol

what they did isn't legal by my understanding. in the states at least, i believe that warranty starts with titling the vehicle. if they've already titled the vehicle, than you're buying 'used'. and if you're buying 'used', MSRP would technically be off the table-- at least, if this market wasn't so bonkers, where MSRP is actually a deal to the used market...

ask for all of it. all weather mats(though i highly recommend weathertek/husky/icon form-fitted mats instead), winter tires, $1k off, and 6-12 mo. of aftermarket warranty coverage to make up for the lapse of subaru coverage.

gotta feel out how willing they are to deal.

but go into this deal with radar at full alert. if they're already pulling shady crap on subaru for *reasons(biting the literal hand that supplies them), expect that they'll sneak extra fees, prep costs, and hassle into the process. depending on how you word it, you might also be able to sway them with the promise of completing a 5-star review for their location upon completion of the deal to keep things moving smoothly.

Already planned on playing the 5-star review card, we'll see how it goes. As for extra fees, they can try lol, but I will walk out if they do. The all weather mats I want are the OEM BRZ specific ones that others have already posted about. It's essentially a weathertech, based on what I've seen in pictures posted. I have weathertechs in my current vehicle and love them, definitely want something comparable for the BRZ. I plan to play it soft, squeeze a little and see where it takes me.

my 2020 Volvo V60 was purchased "new" earlier this year with 4300 miles. I'm the first owner, the previous 4300 miles was put on since the dealer used the car as a service loaner. I may have lost 4300 miles of warranty coverage but the date of my warranty started with the bill of sale date.

you can negotiate all you want but if the car has not been sold, the warranty starts on the date of the sale of the car. transfers to/from dealers do not factor into this consideration unless some dealer was stupid enough to buy a car from another dealer, title it, and pay the sales tax.

For vehicles sold in the US, every car has a certificate of origin that is transformed into the first title of the car (whether it's to you or a lienholder like a leasing company or the finance lender). Until the vehicle is titled the warranty date does not start.

When push comes to shove, this is something that needs to be addressed by Subaru Canada.

This is no different than a computer vendor (like Lenovo) resetting the date of your warranty if you buy stock that new but old.

Edit: Retail Delivery Record does not mean anything. If a car is sold new, warranty starts from the date the vehicle is delivered to the first retail purchaser

Warranty coverage begins on the date the vehicle is delivered to the first retail purchaser. If the vehicle was used as a demonstrator before being sold at retail, warranty coverage begins on the date the vehicle was first placed in demonstrator service.

the only way the warranty started is if it was put in as a demonstrator. Clarify this with the dealer.

The logistics of when a warranty starts aside, you have to think about the mileage.

My cars NEVER EVER NOT EVEN ONCE make it to the time portion of the warranty before I hit the mileage, so 6 weeks wouldn't really matter to me.

Also, the value of the last six weeks of warranty is probably $0. Something would have to go wrong in the last 6 weeks for it to matter, and it rarely ever does.

This is the worst possible time since 1942 to 1945 to be trying to buy a new car. There are 4 to 6 month waits on bread and butter, mass production cars such as the Corolla and dealer lots around the world are virtually empty of stock. The 86 and BRZ are not exempt from this situation.
You can try to make deals but I have little doubt that at this point the dealerships really don't give two shits if you threaten to walk away over a few weeks of warranty. I know I wouldn't if I was a dealer. At this point you pretty much pay what they want or (heaven forbid) you wait until things start to level off for the consumer. It sucks but that is the market that buyers have to deal with right now.

As pointed out above, the more substantive distinction here is: Are you going to be the first owner? Or is the car technically "used"?

The dealer in question is scummy anyway, they are asking $1500+ over msrp on the car as well. I haven’t had great dealings with them in the past, but OP knows to be careful around them.

6 weeks of warranty wouldn't mean anything to me. As long as you are paying MSRP, I'd take it.

Confirmed today that indeed the warranty started Nov 30th and is being sold as new. I was still willing to work it out, but then they blew up the deal being insane shady crazy psychotic, trying to say the numbers on Subaru.ca for financing were "wrong" "read the fine print" lol and wanted to tack an extra $100 bi-weekly to the deal OK then, byeeeeee. Sad, was told by ALOT of people that they were shady, but holy flipping Christmas, $10K they tried to steal from me. Guess it's going to be a custom order now from the better dealership that is out of stock and 4months of impatiently being patient lol.

That does not matter.

If push comes to shove your warranty can be reset by corporate. But most people are not that desperate for a single car.

This place is just fishing for the buyer that isn't paying attention.

Yup indeed they are, they have a very bad reputation, but they had the only Base WRB manual left within Western Canada. I tried, it didn't end well, but nothing lost so its all good. Speaking with a better recommended dealership tomorrow and hopefully will walk out with a deal(or order) signed.
