I keep wondering why people appear to think this. From the rulebook:

"StReet TouRing UltRa (STU) – Higher power and performance sports cars and coupes, along with similarly high performance AWD sedans."

Seems to me the new twin is a perfect fit.

Because the new twin still isn't high powered LOL

My concern with STU is there was a proposal to add much faster cars to it and there's a proposal for SST. not sure what will happen to the STU speed up if SST occurs.

There's a place for STU and there's a Place for SST. The new 86 probably belongs in STR regardless of the 'roadster' definition.
We need cheaper base-priced cars in *ST, putting the New 86 into STX just makes the entry gap from STS to STX that much wider price wise...

STU is going to get a lot faster, putting the new twin there makes no sense.

I wish SCCA would change the STR class name. It's stupid.

Already has M Coupe, M3, 240Z, RX-7, 911, 924, Cayman.

STR = ST-Rear wheel drive?

I wouldn't want to buy one of those for STU either with it getting sped up.

STU Fiata is essentially an STR Miata which is often one of the fastest cars on street tires. I wouldn't worry too much about it, lol

STR is called roadster but specifically callas out Coupes in the class naming/definition

StReet TouRing RoadsteR (STR) – Low to medium HP Rear-Wheel Drive roadsters and coupes. Generally, sports car based chassis.

Sounds like a perfect fit.

Looks like the SFR region event today was a good first data point.

It's first autox ever and it sweeps str/Stu in heitkotter hands and takes top 4 pax with that index against several champs and front running trophy finishers. Neat, and it's only got a tune for power, legit STX suspension/alignment though.
