No its not like 86.

Premium trim doesn't really add big features like auto ac or better dash and infotainment. They have really increased the base trims levels. Also, Gazoo Racing already sell GR86 branded knee pad as an accessory - so yes you can add them.

The differences on the premium (manual) are
adaptive headlights, knee pad, aluminium pedals, Ultrasuede/leather seats, 2 rear speakers.

And that's about it.

Oh, and the 18 inch tires/ps4 wheels of course.

For anyone looking to upgrade the rims and tires, or people that want a more lively experience, the base spec is amazing.

You forgot that 86-premium BRZ-limited seats are also heated,
which is important for some people.

Ahh yes - gotta warm up those glutes! Lol, living in aus I never used them - snow climates I assume?

One thing I don't see this time around is the frameless rear vision mirror on the top spec. They were a nice little bit of cabin class.

The only thing I outright WANT off the higher trim in either car is the blind spot monitoring. Though I wouldn’t kick the heated seats out of bed but they’re much more valuable in traditional leather seats than cloth or even suede ones.

I actively do not want alcantara on any touch points. That stuff simply does not wear well and I worry what the seats will look like in a few years. Sure, you could put some Recaros in, but that is $$$.

Also, I plan on putting wider wheels on so the 18's would be wasted on me, although if I wasn't going to swap them I do think they look MUCH better than the base wheels.

I would want the other stuff that comes with the higher trim though, and I will definitely miss the extra speakers. Does anyone know if it is possible to install aftermarket speakers in the base model to replace the missing 2? I would guess not, since the wiring would be missing and hard to run.

My leather/alcantara seats look great at 4 years with 55k miles on the clock.

Me too after 5 years. My limited BRZ seats are almost perfect. And it’s the leather at the bolster that has some wear. Alcantara is great.

Maybe I am worried about nothing. I have seen pictures of alcantara steering wheels & shift knobs that are shiny and discolored after time passes, but it is possible that the seats hold up better than that. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, it doesn't do so well with sweaty grimy hands... I wouldn't run an alcantara wheel or shift knob unless it was track only with gloves.

I had a car with an aftermarket alcantara steering for a few years and some good mileage.

It was still fine when I sold the car.

I think the issue is more with certain people digging their grubby hands into a super-sized french fry between every shift and wondering why their interior is a mess.

The alcantara wheel on my BMW ZHP was fine even 12 years after the car was made. It does require regular cleaning with a damp clean cloth, and clean hands while driving. Once it starts ‘matting’ together it’s time to clean.

Yeah, I went and googled after I posted (always the right order), and it definitely looks like I am worried about nothing.

There are a lot of before/after pics and cleaning information about alcantara and.. it looks like it is actually pretty durable if you are willing to put in a minimum of effort. I personally wouldn't go for a steering wheel with it just because I live in Texas and sweaty hands are a thing.

Seats are probably fine unless you have a very sweaty ass and frequently drive with no pants. In which case you have bigger problems.

Maybe I'll go for the limited trim after all, and not have to worry about missing speakers. I can just drive on the 18's until the tires are ready for replacement. Or sell them, someone is always willing to buy stock wheels & tires when they need them.

I wish Toyota would open up the orders already. The sunroof on my GTI started leaking so now it's at the dealership, and I am beyond ready to get rid of it.

Yes, summer tires aren't great below freezing but you're making it sound like they're going to shatter like the T1000 after a nitrogen bath. Just don't drive like an idiot. You'll not only survive the drive home, but be able to use the tires again. While I haven't polled all the tens of thousands of owners, I'm willing to go out on a limb and suggest that the vast majority of them drove the factory tires all year 'round. I know I did. Now I know down here in Texas we only get about a week a year below freezing but somehow I didn't die or even crash during that one-week-freeze-ageddon.
Funny, because it was this very forum that insisted driving summer tires below the glass transition temperature would significantly damage them, complete with supporting evidence.
