As for OP .. i guess that one of reasons to switch if not main one was also different FD ratio. Maybe not exactly best price/gains wise route, but to each his own.
My driving level too is most limiting factor, and i don't feel held up by stock diff. Will clutch type be better and provide more traction? Certainly. But my laptimes could be improved much more if i'll learn to drive better and make less mistakes. And my choice is to spend that kind of money on trackdays/HPDE themselves, to hone that bottleneck bit that sits behind the wheel

Clutch type LSDs (Cusco,OSG,etc) will prevent a (single) lifted tire from spinning in the air. Get both rears off the ground at once, and they will not help.

That’s what I heard initially, but then I saw a review on the OSG saying that wasn’t the case. May have to revisit clutch lsd’s then. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It may depend on how a particular unit is setup. From my experience with my Cusco unit, it won't let a lifted tire spin. An easy test is to jack up one side of the rear end with the other side's tire left on the ground, and try to rotate the lifted tire.

driving update
Finally got time to post an update on the driving exp after diff upgrade.
In general with dry cornering, no difference until you get to medium or high lateral loads. When cornered hard, the car definitely seems to trigger the TC warning more easily, or maybe just getting to the limits with less drama. Car stays straighter and wants to oversteer a bit less now. It used to oversteer pretty readily when cornering hard with TC in sport or off. During hard cornering I also hear louder tire squeal more often now than i did previously, which I infer means tires are closer to their limits. Dunno if that's the diff, or more confidence in the handling enabling me to push it faster, but it feels faster. Acceleration is noticeably better thanks to the altered final ratio, but that's independent of the LSD. , So far so good i think, need to get it on the track for bit to really push the limits with TC off. Torsen's can have different torque bia's ratios.
The Stock Twin Torsen isn't really all that aggressive, my 17 mustang GT PP1 had a "T2R" Torsen and it felt and acted very much like a plated LSD. |
