Ticking noise coming from bottom of the block...

I've posted a couple of forums related to problems I've had with my brz (I've had extreme bad luck... Still love it tho)

So I did a Full Blown turbo kit stage 1 install... my AEM fuel pump wasn't working properly so I started messing it with it and took me a while to get it to work... I went to work for 3 months and when I came back it died in me while driving it, turns out the ecu got fried for some unknown reason... so I got it fixed... so I took it off the dealer and got it tuned again. Well the tune it used to have which worked great for 3k miles floded my engine... so I took it back to the dealer and got it flushed out.. and then took it to a tuner shop where they're pretty well known for working on subies around here and I just got a call saying I gotta go check it out before he starts working on it because it has a weird ticking noise that normally means the bearings are bad... So another repair above the 4 digits... Too much money wasted for just 3k miles on a turbo... Anyways, just wondering if someone could back him up or if maybe its normal... I kinda remember hearing a ticking but its been so long since I heard the car run I dont even remember... I will record it on Saturday and upload it

They do sound like tractor engines, but if the shop is familiar with FA20Ds, it could be something else. Hard to speculate without a video, but hopefully it is just normal noise.

Just keep an eye on it. If it starts getting worse then I’d worry about it. If it gets worse then I’d get it fixed asap before its catastrophic and you get stranded. When bearings fail and any metal is in the oil everything that oil touches needs to be addressed and if you have an oil cooler it needs to be replaced.

Yep. This was me. Sorry to hear that you're having to deal with it. You'll spend around 8-9K to fix it but then you have a new motor. Say you sell it for 4K and its worth 15k ish. You'll be about even. I went and had a new motor put in because I really like my car. I never regretted the decision.

yeah used an IAG Stage 1 block and had heads re done, etc by a guy that is the guru of the FA20. Stayed NA. The internals are rated to handle 550 hp so this thing is bulletproof. The original issue stemmed from the recall gone bad.
