Is this whole process just because people don't want to look at the TPMS light on their dash? All this work because you're unwilling to just chuck them in the garbage or sell them on craigslist?

I do know that the "Pipe Bomb" method doesn't work on most of the latest generation TPMS systems. This is because they save power by only activating with the rotation of the wheel, when there is a rapid pressure change, or if triggered by a TPMS tool. I don't know specifically that this doesn't work on the BRZ/FRS, but most evidence is that it won't.

Ive seen a lot of people on other forums build these "pipe bombs", or use the "spare tire" method only to be disappointed when it doesn't work.

As for your TPMS not triggering, you're probably on the right track if you check out some of the other TPMS threads most people found that the light didn't come in until after about 30 miles of continuous driving.

If someone wants to try it more power to them, but I don't want people to go to the effort without knowing that it's likely it won't work.

most aftermarket wheels should be TPMS compatible, unless you are buying some generic cheap wheels that are made in 3rd world country (which is a down grade compare to factory wheels in my opinion). so why not just save the $ and get the wheels that works?

some vehicles wont allow for traction control to be turned off if tpms light is on.... like on the 8th gen civic for instance.

cuz if you have multiple sets of wheels then you either need multiple sets of sensors or have to have them remounted whenever you change wheels which is a PITA, both of which is extra $$$ and hassle for something that should be simple

I still think getting an extra set of TPMS sensors is the way to go. Just personal preference.

A forum member has verified that you can still enable sport mode and turn off TC when your TPMS has gone off.

You then have to go to the dealer and pay 100 bucks to switch the car to use the set, every time you switch!

Some cars can store multiple sets of wheels (porsche stores 3 sets IIRC) where Hyundai is a dealer trip every time you change.

Hence wanting a set that clones the same ID of the stock ones - have to pay for the sensors but then you can switch as much as you like.

Or wait until someone makes a box that let's us reset/change the car to use the diff set.

If you're changing wheels a lot it's probably worth it to buy the ATEQ quickset tool, or I think Bartech's EZ-sensors can clone the stock sensor ID's so you wouldn't need to reprogram the ECU.

We change between winter and summer wheels twice a year on both of our cars. No way I'm paying a shop each time to spend 5 minutes programming ID's.

Hm, i wasn't aware of that. I wonder if you could work some magic by pulling a couple fuses.

Didn't know about these. On the MINi you could reset yourself. This ATEQ tool sounds like something I could use! Anything not to go to the dealer.

Even though I like my dealer.
