I understand it would suck losing a 2+2 RWD economy sporty car, but there are many coupe compacts, pony cars and hot hatches that are 2+2, but there are few dedicated 2-seater coupes at this price point. The next car is the Cayman, Lotus, Corvette, Supra, Jaguar, etc. and several are mid-engine in that group.

I don’t miss the rear seats in the Supra. I do however miss reclining my seat all the way back. Too bad I have a rear bar blocking my seat.

I did a road trip to Disneyland with the niece and nephew in the back, and I think maybe two or three times in 6 years I unnecessarily put someone in the back. The use doesn’t justify their existence for me. Having the 2+2 was also necessary for my purchase, until I realized a few years into the ownership how unnecessary they were. For me, having them was necessary like how people say they need to own a SUV or truck because they may need them, when, for the majority of people, they just don’t, but I understand the sentiment, even if I no longer think the same. Again, the world is filled with sporty passenger cars. It would have been nice for a dedicated 2-seater coupe. That is why this car is so much more GT than a true, lightweight, sports car like some people like to argue.

For me the +2 seats allowed me to have the BRZ as the second car and being able to drive a fun car in many more circumstances than a 2 seater (which would have been a third car and would have been driven almost exclusively for fun (i.e. not much)). I suppose when my kids grow bigger and complain enough about the rear seats I'll need to revisit this...

The 300ZX and RX7 had a 2+2 option while being 2 seats, but they weren’t as rear biased as traditional 2-seaters. I would want the more traditional 2-seater size. A Miata couldn’t realistically be a 2+2.

Then you have the same issue as a miata, can't fit a set of track tires in it.
