Stock front pipe is usually the way to go if you don't want rasp/excessive volume.
I run A350 -> Stock FP -> Perrin 2.5" and it's a great balance of volume and rasp. I had a JDL UQ FP fitted for a while but I never really liked the sound. |

I also ran Ace + stock FP + Touring86.
Enough volume to hear on throttle, completely inaudible on highway cruise. |

I think it's the 4-2-1 desgin. My JDL has a low RPM sound that is kinda tinny or rasp. More pernounced next to cars or walls.

Rather thinner tube walls and no stock heat-shield on top, much more probable then specific header design. Then again usage of thicker wall tubes will reduce clearance and up the weight (and price, due costlier materials and more work with welding), many won't like weight increase to change a bit tone/rasp.

Eventually hks double res fp cracked at weld, switched to stock FP with cat punched out, sounded a little different but still sounded good and same volume. Neither droned. Just good clean exhaust. |

I run the ACE 350 + OP, stock FP, and Touring86 - and this setup is already on the limit of being a bit loud. It's certainly quiet as people say, but that's quiet in comparison to most other aftermarket exhausts. Startup at 2k RPM is plenty of noise and any good bit of throttle at any RPM brings out the sound. Like I said, I guess it's more of a personal preference to what you believe to be loud or quiet. For me, I can't imagine going cat-less FP and not thinking it's a bit too loud for my taste. But I did consider that if I were to ever get one, it would be the dual resonated one to help control the sound and drone to the best ability. |

Most people running no cats are not running Touring86 which is one of if not the quietest aftermarket exhausts. You can tune out loud cold starts. Volume was more based on throttle input than rpm specifically. When cruising even at 3k rpm it was pretty quiet. Louder than stock but not by much. When giving it throttle however it really woke up and thats when the volume came out but still tame vs a lot of other aftermarket setups. |

I was under the impression that "removing the cold start" referred to simply lowering the RPM's the car revs up to on startup? Mine was shooting up from 2.5-3k on freezing days so I had my tuner take it down to about 2k. Is this not what you are referring to? If not, is there any downsides to removing the cold start? Is it not there for a reason?

It's there to warm up the catalytic converter. If you don't have one in your header (which the A350 doesn't), it does nothing but make a lot of noise. |
