Price is not really the issue at hand.

Well, not all of us are as lucky as you then Matador. Hell, even if I had a larger expendable income I'd still be setting myself on a budget, and looking to cut costs at any opportunity. The more money I keep in my pocket, the faster I can start turning the car into what I want it to be.

Seems pretty retarded to me to pay for extra standard features that you don't want / are going to replace/remove soon anyways.

In that sense that's what makes Scion more of a 'tuners' brand...you can pick what you want on the car off the lot, and save the rest for your eventual swapping. In this case, my FT-86 wouldn't need the leather wheel/ shift knob because I plan on using the shift knob out of a 1980 Celica I picked up (its so ballla) and probably a Nardi wheel, and I definitely don't want the power seats because in the long run more suitable bucket's will be put in...all the extra "features" in the higher trim model that I don't want to pay for but HAVE to. In my example this is pretty similar to how Toyota does its trim models...even one higher than base will have extra shit I honestly don't want to pay for.

As much as it pains me to be defending Scion, it does have -some- bonuses for how it does it's business.
What if you DO want EVERY SINGLE OPTION? :party 0030:

'Every single option' goes against this car's design philosophy. Besides, there are some really...frivolous options you can pick for your car at Scion that honestly don't really do anything / add anything to it...like seriously, you'd have to be purposely making sure you added everything to add it.

Also, its no mystery that Toyota (in Japan) is manufacturing this car with tuners and tuning shops in mind. In that case, it does make sense to be Scion...as it caters to the tuner mindset with how it does options.

FFS, will you guys stop making me defend Scion?

Edit: Shit, not only that, but some of these accessories pricing is ABSURD. Who the hell would pay $1200 for your head unit to be replaced by a higher quality one with a small Navigation screen? You could buy that second party and have it installed at a professional car audio shop for cheaper than that. Yeeesssh. Funny enough, basically all the performance options are right there in pricing with aftermarket companies. Its the 'luxury' options that seem crazy priced.

Haha.

Playing devil' advocate, are we?

I've just had a TON of bad experiences with after market parts and really prefer having most of my features done by the dealer because they are usually "done right".

That being said, I don't want to pay an arm and a leg simply because this car is targetted for a "tuner audience".

If I'm not mistaken this car is targetted for anyone that wants a light weight, nimble, RWD, free revving engine. Tuning or not, this is what I am looking for and want.

The fact of the matter is Toyota can't please everyone, but who they are choosing to please doesn't look like it will end right.

Voted other, Imma wait for Honda to get off its lazy ass and make something to compete again. And I'm going to play the waiting game to see the Subaru and the potential of this Scion.

I don't have a problem with the Scion IMHO

in a long shot I would save up money for a Cayman

Just to humor myself I did a (quick) comparison between the 5door hatch Yaris and the Scion xD. Initially the Yaris comes out about 700 cheaper than the base xD, but, if you want the same options as the xD on the yaris, you have to select a trim package (obviously), which puts its MSRP slightly under the xD, by like $500. After that its just all accessories you can purchase for extra when building your Yaris, much like the xD, and they're all basically the same price.

The difference is that the xD has a good number more accessories you can have installed. It also comes with a 1.8L instead of the Yaris' 1.5L...

I unno, this whole argument seems meh.

I'll be honest, I'm confused now and not even sure what argument I was trying to make.

Why are you comparing an xD to a Yaris.

Get a Z, that's my backup to the Scion (or a used G37).

Most reason why people are pissed about that Toyota being a Scion is because of pedigree and heritage of the brand.

With all this talk of pedigree and heritage, it's kinda hard to beat a Porsche on those terms. And As much as I love the Z, I driven both a Manual 350,370z and an Auto 370z I have to say....I love them, even though I couldn't see crap out of the back of a 370z they really need to offer back up camera on those things.

But a Cayman or even a 911 that's as hardcore enthusiast as it gets aside from Lotus. With the Z you might still get them kids that will get it as a present from some rich parent and act stupid with it. With a Porsche it's on a totally different level.

And Im no Baller, I'm the one happy to save money on a Scion LOL

But still the main point of my first post is that

HONDA get off your SORRY butt and MAKE something Already. I've been following their so called rumor new MR car that's suppose to be affordable for a long time now and they're prolly just trolling but if it's true, it's worth the wait.

I think the 2011 touring Z has a backup camera in the rearview mirror, but yeah, the viewing angles in a Z are pathetic. I want something badly from Honda too, but after seeing what they did to the CR-Z, I can't put my faith in them.
