The scarcity of important info about this car only 8 months away from production/release is disappointing.

We don't even know when or if it will hit production.

I think folks are underestimating the impact of a better torque curve, revised gearing and decent tires. you could make a big impact to acceleration with only some modest tweaks to the drive train give the weight of the car. And for the bench racers, your 0-60 will materially improve needing only two shifts to 60. As for the platform, why completely reengineer something that works?

Yeah I think cars like the Camaro are always on the “chopping block”. If they don’t sell enough for X number of years, they are killed. I don’t follow their sales numbers so I’m not sure. It’s a shame if they kill it because it’s the best it’s ever been, especially the performance versions. I’ve had this feeling for a while that some of these awesome performance/muscle cars we’ve seen are really a swan song for ICE powered cars. I mean the Mustang GT350 and 500, the Camaro ZL1, the Corvette Z06 and ZR1, even the Dodge Demon and Hellcat. They are freakin unbelievable cars for the money. Unprecedented performance and character. It’s like Ford, Chevy, and Dodge said “let’s send these cars out with a bang”. And maybe resurrect them as electric vehicles. Ugh

I have first hand experience as I recently swapped out from an 86 I owned for five years into a new 370Z. It’s a different style of sportscar, more refined, with far more grip and quicker obviously, but you do feel the extra weight and you don’t feel the road as much... mostly because the Z has a more refined suspension.

If the 400Z is what many suspect, an updated 370Z with the Q60 3.0TT engine, it will also be a highly competent sportscar. The platform being old, something forum jockeys love to complain about, is really neither here nor there, as long as it is still within modern weight ranges and is stiff enough... and the Z is. A 1500kg, 400HP 400Z will be neck and neck with the similarly heavy, similarly powerful A90 Supra. Way out of the 86’s performance or price class, so not really relevant in relation to the mkII 86.

I wish the 370Z got more love, even though it’s due for an overhaul. I think it’s awesome you can buy a car like that brand new. It’s always been more of a GT car, and it has so many things going for it. But everyone is afraid of saying that it’s still a great car.
I hope Nissan can create a new Z that still retains some character of the prior versions.

Back in the 80's and before families had zero issues having 1 car that only had 2 doors. We just live in a different world. Mustang, Camaro, Supra, Z, etc were family cars. And even the cars that did have 4 doors were so much lighter and smaller. A 1989 Mazda 626 turbo weighed something like 1900 pounds.

Yep. Thinking back on it, the only 4 door my parents ever owned was an Olds 98. Every other car, truck and even a couple of station wagons, were two door.

We don't even know what sort of fuel system they are planning. Will it be another version of the current Toyota one with port and direct injection or will it just be a straight Subaru system like all the rest of their NA cars? Not near enough info to be trying to determine what the emissions will be at this point.
Sorry the rest of my response had nothing to do with the "sort of" answer to you. Economies of scale creating lower production costs for a product only work to just such an extent after which a base price is reached and can't go any lower without sacrificing something. Would the price even reach that base level is questionable as a business is supposed to operate profitably and higher profits are integral to a successful business so that low cost floor is rarely reached.

Might be similar to the turbo FA20 in the WRX (and others) and the NA FA20 in the Twins (with the NA version having higher compression and redline).
That's pretty much what I was thinking.

Then why didn’t we at least get the larger oil pump like the DIT in the WRX? Can’t even swap the DIT timing cover over. Sensor locations are not the same.

The first car I remember riding in didn't even have seat belts. Car seats weren't a thing. Different world for sure.
