I think 40lb ft and a slightly more aggressive final drive(4.5) would make a difference enough for me.
Easily. They are not going to put a transmission in a car that is just barely adequate for the power output. Slap a trans cooler on it and forget about it. I am right there with you on the final drive upgrade.

Is the transmission different between the IS 250 and 350?

Got it. Also, I think from what I have searched, the IS350 actually never came with a Manual transmission. Correct?

Check out the progress of the system here: www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8104
I've been following the progress on the AIRAID system and went ahead and pre-ordered from AJUSA.com. Last year I bought an AIRAID system for my 5.3L p/u truck and noted immediate gains in fuel efficiency, acceleration and improved underhood sound...in conjuction with exhaust, wheel, tire and ECU mods.

While using a modified air intake alone, HP and torque gains may be modest as discussed in this tread, I do tend to agree with @Max Schnell and @Apex Chase that intake, exhaust, pully and ECU mods will all work together to achieve and demonstrate measurable performance gains. For those of us not going the $5000+ turbo route, the intake system cannot be ignored.

The way I see it, the choices are:
1. Stock system with stock air filter - $0 - no gain.
2. Replace the panel filter - $40+ up - modest HP gain.
3. After market air intake - $210+ up - slightly more modest HP gain.

I had intended to follow approach #2 but, today I pulled the trigger on an AIRAID system because it is a good deal for what looks to be a quality Researched & Developed system. This particular deal expires tomorrow, 7/26, so for about $210 after coupon code and rebate...it is worth it to me.
