I dont have a problem with regular cars having this tech. If we don't think outside the box, we will never advance. I shudder at the thought of still having carbs and drum brakes. eeewww.

But yeah, the bugs need to be worked out.

If that idiot thinks that automakers don't test their ABS systems of snow, even roads, varying conditions etc etc he must be an idiot. So many systems is exactly why cars take so long to come out these days, mules go through an extraordinary amount of testing. Still, not everybody gets it right the first time.

I really hope the ft doesn't have dbw. I've heard nothing but bad news about this.

Highly unlikely it well. Maybe it might have electrical assist instead of a hydraulic power steering pump, no way though it will be dbw. Maybe throttle by wire, but no bbw either.

Call me a techy and call me a youngin.. but I rather like the idea of an uplink in-car to issue updates to a car's ECU as soon as it gets out, not to mention the idea of active suspension and updates to that, making a car that may have come out slightly sluggish, bumpy, and prone to slipping more robust, smooth, and capable of handling. Not to mention that automobiles are becoming more and more media-centric..
I'm not a fan of cloud computing or centralized storage, but.. I can definitely see the merit in having a song playing on your home theater setup, getting in your car, and having the song continue through your stereo setup. I prefer more control, but I can see the merit.
I can't remember the specific benefits drive-by-wire has, but I remember hearing about it and seeing merit to the idea. Cars are constantly improving, and I'd rather not drive a carbureted, manual-steering, drum-braked, wooden cart-wheeled shitcan.
Maybe drive-by-wire is the future, and maybe it's a failure, but I won't be the first to cry about progress.

if it's done right, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

BMW's have used electronic throttles for years now. and they have a reputation of having fantastic throttle response.
