What is strange is that so many of the valves are leaking, of the actual valve spring failures I've seen there is usually only 1 broken, only once have I seen 2 in the same engine...never seen more than that...

Up till the misfiring at the traffic jam, the car was behaving normally and before that it had a track day 2 weeks prior with no incidents. |

That's why I was asking about carbon build up on the valves, other possibilities are bent valves (ever get any water in the engine?) or burnt valves (is it tuned or running E85?, Money shift on track?)

It's an interesting side effect of direct injection...however since these cars are also port injected, not normally a problem.

BTW I heard the ping at the moment valve spring failed when I was cold starting the car - very subtle sound, can be easily missed. |

I cannot do that since I did too much wrenching on this one and I'm kind of attached to it now. I will keep it forever, renewing, replacing parts continuously. |
