Whirring noise on clutch
Hi,
Recently I noticed this whirring noise when i press the clutch on cold start. Even if i press the clutch a little. Is this the dreaded TOB? |

I got about 6,000 miles after mine started to make that noise. I also waited too long and it blew and took everything it touched with it. I personally would not wait. The longer it goes the more damage is done.

SU003-07349 Exedy OEM Clutch Kit I've read that the 17+ models TOB are better so i guess im purchasing this one. Since im gonna replace TOB might as well replace whole clutch assembly. Thinking about replacing the OEM clutch fork with the Forged Verus ones. I did the clutch pedal mod, moved it about just equal to brake pedal; did this cause more wear on my TOB/Clutch Assembly? If this caused more wear then i would want to move back the clutch pedal height. |

Yep. TOB.
Mine started with the faint same exact noise at about your same mileage. Mine lived another 10k before it shat itself on the taco bell drive through. The job itself is not hard at all, given you have a level garage, a buddy and basic hand tools.

No the mod probably had nothing to do with it. There were two visibly different TOBs used up until 2017 even though there was only one part number. One seems to be worse than the other. This is the part number you want.

Personally, at 60k+ miles, if you're going to drop the transmission you might as well do the whole clutch. The kits themselves are not that expensive, and the labor you're putting in just makes sense to do it all now and not have to worry about dropping it again in the near future.

Yep, Murphy's Law! Not that pulling the transmission is difficult I just would not want to pull it again 6 months later. |

It all depends on the driver. If the driver is clueless, for example, chronically gassing before full engagement, then maybe replace.
If the owner is confident in his/her ability to respect the clutch, I wouldn't fuck with it. New parts can be defective.
