whining/whirring noise during high load/rpm clutch engagement

EDIT: another user below has documented this on video,

well, just a little over 5000km and i'm having my first "wtf" issue with the car

when i switch gears there is a whinning/whirring noise, almost like a failed bearing, or the sound of a drill bit overheating inside a piece of wood...

i can replicate the noise if i can drive the car at steady speed, clutch out, keep the gas at around 5000rpm and let the clutch slowly engage and SLIP IT, and can maintain the noise if i maintain the proper slip

my first reaction is a failing throwout bearing

my second thought was maybe something is getting lose and its high frequency resonance.

also, i can faintly hear the noise when i'm light on the throttle, ie, crusing, when engaged in any gear

and by faint i mean FAINT, i have a pretty good ear for these things and wouldn't be surprised if no one else would pick it up (i'm the type of guy who can hear the noise a TV makes on a "black" channel)

sounds bout right

\'muted goose" and "whooop"

if i make perfect shifts it does nothing, only when i drag the clutch

which is fine, i guess, since the latter happens rarely... but i'm curious as to why now?

Is it the sound in the video below? The other thread didn't sound like they were describing what I have but your description did. I get this with just the right amount of slip.

yep, this is the exact sound.

do we have a thread on this?

Some on another forum mentioned it could be a glazed clutch.. which i refuse to believe since i'm no manual noob. My VW survived 100,000km and 5 years of autocross/track racing before giving out.

Shoulda bought a volkswagen ya.

I think this is the thread. I searched around and didn't see anything similar posted.

It sounds to me like a high pitch rattle coming from the dash area. Just the right amount of load/slip causing something in the dash to vibrate.

Honk-like sound when shifting out of gear in higher RPM's

This is something I heard occasionally but though I was just hearing things. Then I started to hear it more often and now often enough to figure out when it happens. When I accelerate fairly hard, right as I am shifting out of gear I will hear what sounds almost like a distant horn sounding... say the word toot in a semi-high pitch voice and that is what it sounds like.
It's starting to happen often enough that I'm pretty sure I could recreate it at the dealership if I drove them around the block. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if it is something I should worry about. I am 100% stock atm.

I've experienced this as well. I think I've heard it 2-3 times and it wasn't when I was shifting at high RPMs. I can't reproduce it and I haven't heard the sound in about a week.
