To me it sound like your clutch fork is squeaking. My tob is on it's way out, but has different symptoms from what you describe. Yours only squeaks at engagement and during clutch pedal depression, but is silent at full engagement. The tob usually squeaks when the clutch is fully engaged and quiets when the pedal is pressed.

Interesting, perhaps it is just a worn throw out bearing. Mine started off a little grinding noise when I depressed the clutch peda,l but over time (7 months) it got really bad. My mechanic suggested that the bearing was probaby the culprit but being seven years old I decided just to replace everything since the car was going to be apart anyway. Hope your repair goes smoothly.

I did not read all the responses.

That is 98% the symptoms of a TOB.
Replace it. Replace it soon!

Word.. my original TOB lasted about 25K, second one 50K, now I'm on the 3rd one (updated supposedly upgraded with new grease). the original version used uses grease that disintegrates quickly, allegedly. The new one used better grease, purportedly.

My first one lasted about 40K. The upgraded one was still performing well after another 100K.

Thanks a lot to all of you... I will definitely start with that (TOB + Clutch inspection) before anything else... What makes it tricky to diagnose is that most videos of people with TOB failures were showing different symptoms/sounds, etc. But as PBrown is mentioning, what I am hearing may be the failure mode in its early stage...

I almost feel special having mine fail "only" at 120k+ kms! Once my perf shop reopens, I'll have them check this out...

Cheers and thanks again

I have taken a video of the noise. Hopefully this can confirm the TOB hypothesis. See link below:

Does it only happen when you actuate the clutch pedal? If so, then its likely to do with the TOB, clutch fork, or slave master. Either way you'll probably need to get to the clutch fork and TOB to inspect them. No way around it, my friend.

To date, yes it’s really only when the clutch is actuated. I’ll get it checked as soon as my performance shop opens back up.

Were I you, I'd replace the TOB, the actuator arm/fork, and the arm pivot. Verus makes some really sexy looking replacements. Nobody will ever see 'em, but you'll feel good knowing they're there.

Until then, I'd suggest using the clutch gently and sparingly.

Barely, but good thing that's only a $30 part on his car. The TOB that replaced this one looked perfectly fine when it came out, but the ball bearings were loose inside the housing making baby rattle sounds.
