WHAT DID YOU DO TO YOUR FRS TODAY?

In the last week, I have done lots of things to my 2015 FR-S and 2020 Hakone Edition 86.

1. Shipped the FR-S on Tuesday 3/24 to my nephew in California on an enclosed transporter. It should arrive on Thursday, 4/2.
2. Had the 16x7 Focal X wheels restored. Color change from satin black to a medium grey with bronze-ish overtones. These will look great on the Hakone next winter. Plenty of tread left on the 205/50x16 Blizzak WS80s
3. Ordered new lugnuts and 8-spline socket from Tirerack. The old lugnuts were getting rusted and I didn't trust the threads any longer.

While it is extremely unlikely I will get many miles on it this year, at least I will be ready for winter! And for the first time in over 20 years, we have only 2 cars (2018 RAV4 Hybrid, 2020 Hakone 86), so both will get to live in the garage!

When did your chain stretch and break (miles/years)? Did you suffer catastrophic engine damage (aside from the damage to your wallet)? Are these interference engines? Until now I didn't know a timing chain could stretch and break without oil starvation. What did you do and did they determine root cause?

They are interference engines. You lose a timing chain and you're fucked. Yes, you should do the plugs.

Clean with solvent. Spray adhesion promoter. Spray two coats of color. Spray three costs of clear. My job looks great. The paint is fairly durable with the layers I sprayed.

Primer is great for parts that are not plastic. Adhesion promoter is great for plastic parts. I used automotive clear coat.

You can get EVERYTHING you need here. I also bought a few cans of D6S paint. I have touched up several things with it. It matches perfectly.

Painting engine parts gold brings to mind a waaay back in the day story.

When I was 15, I painted several engine parts (valve cover, air cleaner, stuff like that) of my 1948 Chevrolet, gold. I even painted the circular access door to the front of the radiator (silver in the picture). I then wrote my GF initials (KH, for Kathy Hart) in white paint on the access door.

The next year, when I was 16, my new GF (Kathy Harvey - KH) wanted to see the mill in my car (that's a lie - she didn't want to see it, I just wanted to show it off). As I raised the hood, I had this sinking feeling about the initials that I had inscribed on my engine part.

Then, it dawned on me that the initials were the same (KH). What a relief!

Finally got the hood on, only been 8 months in the running.

Got my wireless steering control installed on my 86 a few days back. Plenty of time to get all of this done since my country had already went into lockdown due to COVID-19 two weeks ago.

Not too difficult, just had to patch 3 wires from the module to the head unit and power from the accessory. The buttons were then placed at the plaque area below the traction control buttons. Then a buddy gave a great idea - 3D print out a plaque piece which would slot the two buttons in.

Got the STL file from Thingiverse (thanks michaelxchristopher) and another friend made the necessary alterations to the design (thanks kev). Got it printed, did some additional fitting work with some sandpaper, finished the surfaces off with some trim protectant and it looks pretty good now.

Tried to install my new battery, only to find that the one recommended as compatible by the web shop had the positive on the left side .

Started a return, and ordered the correct one (Varta D47, which is listed an incompatible )...

Not having spent a lot of time before I got my green baby (hmn wonder if there should be an epoch marker for life before & after).

Anyway, haven driven a good friend's 2017 BRZ with 18" wheels, I really feel like some future upgrade for me will be at least 18s in the rear.
