You're right, it does happen quite often. People spend a ton of money on a built engine and then trade it in for blue book. Happens with leases even more often.

God I hate this assumption! My FRS saw redline maybe 10 times in the 6 years I owned it. There simply is little opportunity to drive the crap out of it for no apparent reason on the streets. I bet I am not the only one in that boat either. We don't all hammer at it even if what it was "built" for.


I think the last time I accidently over rev down shifted half the people on this forum were not born yet.

You’re doing it wrong then.
The Point was the car can handle redlines frequently with no issues and isn’t a sign of built engine.

After driving for 50+ years and also based on your first comment, your experience and driving style I’m not surprised you haven’t over rev down shifted in a while.

Im sure the main people driving these cars are 16-36yr olds. And don’t have your experience or granny style driving and have at least over rev down shifted at least once if they’ve put on enough miles.
The Point was engine surviving a slight over rev from a down shift isn’t a sign of a built engine.

I drive well over the limit all the time.
I do not take 30 seconds to merge.
I can do all those without redlining.
Just because you feel a need to beat on the car does not mean it needs it to perform. You can shift just before redline with no noticeable difference in performance.
Not driving asshat style does not equate to driving like a granny.
