Water pump replacement

Curious as to what symptoms you have that make you think the pump is going. Mileage? Mods? I don't recall any issues with pumps on these. Coming from the Mitsubishi world where water pump failures are regular I have sort of watched for problems here but haven't really noticed any.


There are inexpensive or cheap aftermarket pumps out there. They are not equal. Can be hard to tell the difference but rule of thumb is the normal if it seems way to cheap it probably is crap (I know that always applies).

Good point. Cheap is often cheap.

Easy to tell when I have coolant leaking from the water pump onto my header after I got up to operating temps. There was even a trail of coolant leading up to my driveway from down the street.

It started with a loose hose connection on my forester cooler, temps went to red and not much left in the radiator. I suspect it damaged the seals.

Aisin is cheaper on RockAuto, but you'd have to pay shipping. They are an OEM supplier (Toyota included). Not sure if it's the brand on the twins but I would trust it. Gates has a good rep for belts but their water pumps don't have great QC.
